Division Beta

The Division has become a little less mysterious over the past few days, but there’s still so much about the MMO shooter from Ubisoft that we don’t know. It’s unlikely that the beta weekend next week will answer much of that, but it’s likely that a great deal of expectation for the title might either soar into flight or come crashing down. That’s if you can even get into the beta at all.

Aside from needing a pre-order to secure access (unless you want to try your luck with the waiting list), the Division beta will require a hefty download for just a weekend of play. The exact size for the beta has leaked on PC via a uPlay pre-load, and those on Xbox One and PS4 can expect something similar.

The Division file size

Yes, you’re reading right. The Division Beta will require a 26GB download for just 72 hours of play, which is rather substantial for the bandwidth strapped. For most of the world that’s no issue at all, but bringing things down to Earth here in South Africa it might rule out the beta entirely for some. Despite the time it will take for such a download to complete, it’s a hefty size – and one not too many people might be willing to engage with.

Either way, the Beta kicks off on Xbox One on the 28th, with PC and PS4 getting access the day later. It will then close its doors on the 31st, provided servers are stable enough throughout and Ubisoft doesn’t extend things. It’ll be the first time public get their hands on PvE portions of the game, which sound rather expansive.

And if you can’t get into the beta, The Division launches in a few short weeks anyway.

You don’t try Uplay, Uplay is trying.

Yeah, this is what worries me most about this title, uSHIT and Ubis’ past history in porting console titles to PC (looking at you GRAW & Watchdogs).

I’ve taken the chance & bought it on Steam already, because I *really* want this to be as good as it looks, but I I’ll be the first to say I’m not entirely sure that was the best of ideas……

I’ve got a 40 Mb line so downloading it “quickly” won’t be a problem… the data cap however is an entirely different issue :S I already downloaded Star Citizen’s 2.1 update last week which was 28 Gb. Apparently their version of a patch isn’t what I’m used to… with their version they should actually just say that you have to download the ENTIRE game again… Can’t wait for the upgrade to fibre purely for the cap increase from 100Gb to 400gb. (The 40 -> 50 Mb isn’t that bg of a deal, however the lower latency will also be welcomed)

28GB update for SC? Oy vey……..

You know, I think I’m just going to ignore SC from now until release, and play the odd bit of Elite Dangerous when the need for a space sim takes me. There’s no way I have the time & patience to keep updating clients, especially not when the updates are so damn big.

Well we’re basically 3 households sharing the connection, so the landlord charges me only R300 pm (I do use around 80% of the cap on my own though). Once we upgrade to fibre the 50/5 line with a 400 GB cap will be R1000 pm or R1100 for the 50/50. Think all in all the fibre will then actually be cheaper than the 40 Mb VDSL line.

The beta (if I get in), beta footage (if I don’t), and thoughts from friends about the beta, will be the deciding factors for me in getting this game. I’m really interested, but I really don’t want to sink R600 into something I won’t have anyone to play with again.

R600… You have no idea how happy I am that steam placed us in the Rands system and didn’t update the currency strength. If we were still in the Dollar system we would have to pay R1010 for the game, no jokes.

I got one of those 6pm-6am uncapped accounts for R150pm that will have this done in 15hrs max on a 5mbps line.

Everybody who wants to get this game on PC is waiting to see how it looks. If it’s anything like the Xbox One version I sense a lot of pre-orders for the PC-version will be called back

I am so ready! But if there is concern over download times shouldn’t they be emailing out the guaranteed access codes by now to let people start preloading?
