The Division Beta could start on January 29

The Division beta

I’m terribly bored at the moment. Terribly, terribly bored. And that’s because daddy needs some new games to play. I’ve already spent several hours recreating One-Punch Man in Dragon Ball XenoVerse (surprisingly effective on Yamcha), solved every riddle in Batman Arkham Knight just so that I can have the pleasure of punching the Riddler in the face and I reached my explosion threshold in Just Cause 3 after I received a nuclear-tipped launcher.

So what’s next then? There’s plenty of games coming out soon that I’ve got my eye on, such as the latest Naruto brawler. But there’s also Tom Clancy’s The Division, which looks like a strangely appealing bastard son born from the illicit one-night stand of Borderlands and Destiny. Look, I’m a sucker for the kind of game that feeds into my power fantasy and churns out weapons with which I can maths better against high-level opponents. An absolute sucker, I say.

I’m also of course a tad bit wary of plonking cash down for a new game, and with the Rand being battered as if it were Mick Foley on top of a steel cage in a Hell in a Cell match,  those games are only going to get more expensive. Which is why I’m dead-keen on trying out a beta (I MISS DEMOS) for The Division.

Ubisoft has been promising a closed beta for their open-world shooter for months now, with the most recent instance of it being delayed out of December and into “early 2016”. January 29 to be exact, if the rumours are true. That’s according to a Reddit posting a support help exchange with Funstock Digital. Responsible for handing out “Steam Keys, Origin Keys, Uplay Keys and more”, a Funstock employee said:

The closed beta starts on January 29th. We will be receiving and distributing the keys in the next 2 weeks before the beta begins.

Take it with a pinch of salt then, but it’s not unlikely. The closed alpha was surprisingly solid however, so a closed beta at the end of January does seem likely at least. Especially with the game currently scheduled for a March release, and in need of some hype-building. Remember, you’ll still need an invite to take part in the beta, or risk having other fortunate players sneer at you.

How many people are still excited for this game? They removed features and it quite frankly does not look that great. I would rather play Ghost Recon:Wildlands.

From what they first showcased to now, they’ve made a few changes, but I honestly feel that it’s a cop out for something that has unlimited potential, especially because it’s “always online”, But Wildlands looks quite good, let’s hope it also doesn’t go through the same design changes…

Due to the fact that there aren’t any local servers for games coming out now really puts me off from online gaming. I’m actually moving to the forever SP mode now since it’s just easier not to deal with the issues of lag and people moaning at you for being useless in german. So no, not excited for the game.

That is why I love WoW. Someone starts talking a different language on alliance side you get moaned at on an English server. Horde side however every single person begins replying in their home language and it turns out really really funny. Plus that’s how I met a few South Africans. 🙂

Ze Dewisionne…. I’d love to try the Beta, unfortunately, thanks to Steam, my cap has been reached, which means I’ll probably pick it up on disk, in June, somewhere closer to 2030….

This game is going to end up like Destiny. There will be a select few who spend every evening playing 5 hours of it powering up, trying to convince others to play. When the others finally do, the first players will be bored and say the game is shit. Until a new DLC comes out then they will rave about how awesome it is. Until they complete the DLC 10 times and then say it’s shit… Until the next DLC yadda yadda…

Hopefully The Division doesn’t end up done broken in half like Mick Foley.

At the moment you can get a beta key from Humble Hundle (~$10). I bought a standalone beta key on G2A for around R25. Hopefully they do in fact “launch” the beta on the 29th, I’m keen to try this out.

Ugh, so many haters, everytime a new game comes close to release. I played the Alpha, and I loved every minute of it. Sure the visuals and features weren’t like we saw in the E3 presentation, because that’s just what that was, a presentation, made specially for E3. The Alpha was an unpolished, incomplete version of the game, not to wow us, not to blow our socks off, but to test out certain features of the game like matchmaking etc. The Beta will most probably be the same, only this time PS4 and PC will join Xbox One, where they will again test out certain features of the game. These are tests, not demo’s. I’m quite positive that the final game will look & play just awesome.

As for absence of local servers and bad latency, I experienced absolutely zero lag during play.
