The Division’s Day One patch fixes many serious issues

The Division has a big day one patch

It is, technically, The Division Day today. With the servers set to go live at around 3pm this afternoon, anyone with a digitally acquire copy or a physical one that shouldn’t be out of a store yet will be able to hop online and enjoy a game that at one point looked in real danger. Not, of course, without downloading a Day One patch – which will fix many important issues from the closed and open betas.

Beta periods might be used a lot more for marketing purpose above all else lately, but Ubisoft actually learnt a lot from the limited times they let thousands into their servers early. Critique on some UI elements, massive, game breaking bugs and balancing were all taken to heart, and make up the bulk of what the Day One patch fixes. There’s no file size attributed to the long change log, but Ubisoft thanked every single beta participant on helping make a better Division.

“Please keep giving us your feedback and suggestions as we will continue improving the game. After all, launch is just the beginning.”

And even if fixing issues like bugs that warp players out the map don’t sound too important to you, you’ll be glad that this Day One patch exists. It aims to make the game more visually appealing by fixing some illumination bugs, while also making things like changing clothing or picking missions from the main map a lot easier and intuitive. Check out the full change log below.

APPEARANCE MENU HAS BEEN UPDATED:

  • Now displays as a grid making it much easier to browse items
  • “Outfit Sets” option added to quickly equip all the items in a set
  • “Inspect” feature added

VISUAL IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Fixed several lights that did not cast global illumination
  • Fixed missing volumetric lights on traffic lights
  • Illuminated signs now cast actual light
  • Improved atmospheric haze in several time and weather combinations
  • Improved night time lighting and contrast
  • Adjusted exaggerated rim light shader on characters
  • Improved car window reflections
  • Improved Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO) to be more pronounced

MEGA MAP AND OPEN WORLD UPDATES:

  • New “Mission Overview” has been added to the Mega Map
  • Contaminated zones will now display the required filter level on the Mega Map
  • Field data with audio will automatically play when you pick them up
  • If you start listening to field data with audio from the menu, you can keep listening outside the menu
  • Subtitles added for all Field Data that play audio
  • Mission entrance menu usability has been improved
  • Significantly increased the number of crafting materials obtained from loot crates
  • The icon for landmarks in the Dark Zone has been changed and now indicates if non-player enemies are present or not

GAMEPLAY IMPROVEMENTS:

  • New “Help” menu is now available in the Settings menu. It stores all the loading screen and context sensitive tips
  • New tutorials added for certain gameplay features and mechanics (these can be switched off in the Options menu)
  • Added information to the in-game loot pickup UI that displays why an item can’t be picked up
  • The deployable turret no longer targets non-rogue players and doesn’t damage neutral players caught in the line of fire
  • Skill modifiers have been added directly to gear (previously only available on gear mods)

FIXES AND GENERAL IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Fixed glitches that could be exploited by players to gain an unfair advantage in the game (such as invisibility, shooting through walls, etc).
  • Extended server-side checks to detect any illegal actions from the game client, limit their impact in the game and track down the perpetrators.
  • Fixed an issue on character select screen that resulted in getting stuck with a specific combination of inputs
  • Fixed a progression blocking issue caused by accepting a group invite at a specific moment during the Base of Operations unlock sequence
  • Players will no longer return all the way back to start screen after creating or logging in to their Ubisoft Club account
  • Fixed remaining bugs that prevented log-in attempts when non-essential services were offline
  • Overall stability increased
  • Further backend improvements and optimizations
  • Localization adjustments and bug fixes
  • Additional minor bug fixes and polish

If you’re not planning to play today, The Division will be waiting for you tomorrow on launch day. It’s out on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

This is what worries me… I had to buy the Physical copy because the preload wouldn’t have been done in time on my ps4 due to the way I have my ISP set up… if it’s larger than a 1GB looks like im only playing division on Wednesday after work :/ So that thought kind of ruins my day… and the fact that my GF is off work Wednesday and Thursday and I have to work so no extra division time :'(

My preload is ready, but I literally only have tomorrow to play, (AFK for a bit)

So I need to crunch a few hours in a single day

I wonder if the pre-load will include this patch?

My thoughts exactly. All my recent digital downloads included the patches though.

My Steam says that a patch is required, but won’t load it until the game is launched in 20 hours.

I am very excited! Did my 30GB pre-load Friday already. I am just sitting and waiting for it to activate, but it seems I will need to wait till tomorrow after work to play 🙁

    Excite!

Since this is from Ubisoft, I guess that Day One patch will be close to 20 gigs….

That’s embarrassing and a little underwhelming 🙁 2.8 gigs? That’s… so small.. (that’s what she said)

Conflicting report as some are saying 6GB. Well spoke to a friend in UK and he says if you went digital it is already in the initial download.

So the day one patch removes the Uplay requirement? No? Well that’s a shame, that’s the most glaring issue here.

My only bug-bear about division is that the setting means that every boss fight is against a boring human…

I really can’t make up my mind if I should get this. It looks great, and the little I was able to play of the demo wasn’t bad. But I had a game-breaking issue in the beta where the game would suddenly detect a non-existent XBox controller and would become uncontrollable. I’ve had similar issues in other Ubisoft titles on PC before, though admittedly not all of them, but it still makes me hella cautious to splash out R600 on this….
