Don’t worry, Xbox Game Pass for PC isn’t limited in South Africa

Xbox Game Pass is available on PC, and it’s an astounding bit of value, as I’ve already detailed. When I wrote about that, some people very helpfully pointed out that the list of games available to use in South Africa was limited, with just 63 of the 109 games available. Obviously, this would be a big problem, as Game Pass would become reduced value proposition.

The one game I was most excited for, Metro Exodus, was not in the list of games available to Game Pass PC users in South Africa, which was upsetting. I did, however, notice that by searching for the game in the newly released Xbox App which acts as a hub for Game Pass on PC, I was able to download and install the game.

Naturally, I then cross-checked the list of games originally revealed with Game Pass with the reduced list of games that are listed as available on the South African list by using search and I was pleased to discover that there are just three games missing from South African Game Pass on PC. They are Antiquia Lost, Mindzone and The Banner Saga 3. Curiously, none of these games actually show up as available through US’ game pass either, and I’m just working on this using the text-based list of available games.

Everything else, From Metro Exodus, Shenmue I+II, The Messenger, Battle Chasers and the rest of the games are available to download and play – you just have to find them through search and not by browsing the list of available games. It’s not ideal, but at least the service isn’t especially lacking for us.

Thanks for the article. It’s a big relief for me. I too was drawn to Metro Exodus as a justifying factor to the Game Pass, so its great to know I can still get it. MS better get their sh!t together though if they want to be a contender for the crown that is still held by Steam.

Which brings me to another question – I wonder if Steam will ever jump on the subscription bandwagon. Admittedly, they themselves don’t really publish games, but with the amount of titles that they do have in their store and their large user base, it could be very lucrative for them.

New updates aren’t pushed to all automatic update branches until a few months after the update has been pushed to tested platforms or enough people manually opted in.

You should be able to manually retrieve an update through update assistant

yeah just a little irritating when they launch something like this when its basically not available to everyone without them having tp jump through hoops to get it.

It is because of the poor design of Windows and M$ not being able to keep all device manufactures up to date with new changes. They got burnt too much in the past by mass update roll out semi-bricking PCs that they not allow any accidental or automatic update form OS itself.

This still isn’t enticing at all.
Only Forza 4 is interesting to me.
Put Forza on gog or steam or a real client and you’ll see some serious income. I’d buy it in a heartbeat…as long as it’s not on that moronic Windows Store pricing scheme.
