Doom 4's Writer Revealed, more than likely redundant.

CVG reports that id has announced the writer for their slightly anticipated Doom sequel is Graham Joyce.

Mr Joyce certainly has the qualifications to pen the game as he has received quite a few British Fantasy awards. Hopefully these will translate into some top notch pants-wetting scenarios as the previous Doom game had completely lost touch of what horror or terrorising the gamer entailed, and Doom 3 had no story.

I have played all of the Doom games, and I can’t think of one instance where I pushed ‘Esc’ and said to myself, ” Wow this is really good writing, I hope to see more of this throughout the game and in the sequel.” Writing for Doom has always been:

Walk forward, soil pants, kill monster.

Rinse and repeat.

A bit cynical? Yes, but if this new writer can weave some magic into this archaic franchise then good for id. Some people may enjoy a game of theirs for the first time in years.

To be honest, Doom wasn’t really ever supposed to be about the story, although they took a different direction with 3. It’s good that they are trying to improve the storyline and I think that it shows that they are looking to move forwards, although to be honest, I really wouldn’t mind a faithful recreation of the originals 😀

Doom never was suppose to be about the story.
It was about getting to the exit without dying.
I don’t see anything wrong with that. The story
just slows down the gore, which is what Doom3 did 😉
