The International 5 is gearing up to be the best one yet. The prize pool continues to grow (close on $9 million at time of writing) and 10 fantastic teams have secured direct invites from Valve. The stage isn’t fully set however, as there is still space for a further 6 teams. Those empty slots will get filled over the coming week, starting today, by means of regional qualifiers.

The Chinese Qualifier is already well underway. The American one will kick off later this evening. Both will continue until the 28th of May – this Thursday. The South East Asian and European Qualifiers will only start later this week (on Friday).

Here’s a breakdown of the groups (via Join Dota):

China Qualifier

China

America Qualifier

America

SEA Qualifier

SEA

Europe Qualifier

Europe

Here’s how those remaining 6 spots will be determined (via Valve)

Each region consists of two round robin groups of five teams.
The top two teams from each group will advance to a double elimination bracket with the round robin first place teams starting in the upper bracket and the runner-ups starting in the lower bracket.

The winner of each region will be invited to The International.
The four runner-ups will compete against each other in a Wild Card series in Seattle for the final two spots of the tournament.

All matches will be free to watch in the Dota client itself. Alternately, you can catch all the action over on Twitch.

There will be a lot of Dota 2 happening over the next week, and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into as much as I can! What about you? Who are you supporting? Will you be following The International religiously?

One is a MOBA. The other one is to MOBA what touch rugby is to real rugby. I.e. it’s something only little kids play. Like Bakers Mini-Cricket. 😉

I’m sure the kids who play mini-cricket feel the same way. 😛

I will be following it non-religiously. I’m a MOB-Atheist. Thank the FSM there isn’t a new Pokemon game coming out again this week as well.

If you were a MOBA-Atheist it would mean that you think MOBAs (as a genre as well as the games themselves) do not exist. So, it stands to reason that your comment on this article implies that your Atheism is waving. You’re having a crisis of faith man! ATTEND TO A UNIVERSITY IMMEDIATELY! Just avoid the IT department. A lot of DotA going on there.

Pffft. Reason is overrated! I don’t need no stinking reason! I go with my gut, because billions of bacteria can’t be denied!

I cannot argue with that. The gut wants what the gut wants. 😀

I’m proud you bring up your feelings about DotA in social situations. It means my therapist was right. The best way to get over repressed feelings of inadequacy is to talk about them with other people. 😉 😉

      I KID I KID! 😀

*Edit: I’ve just committed upvote suicide. 🙁

My point is we all do even if we say we don’t. Even if it’s just for the five minutes spent reading the moba articles that you write.
