This kinda came out of nowhere. USA Today is reporting that Bioware’s fantasy RPG Dragon Age will be turned in to a 6 part, live action web series.

If the geek in you isn’t excited by that, perhaps that fact that it’s written by, and starring nerd darling Felicia Day of The Guild fame might change your mind.

Called Dragon Age : Redemption, the series will follow Tallis, an Elven assassin who is on a quest to “capture a renegade magician.” during her travels, she’ll try to enlist the aid of fellow warriors to rid Ferelden of the Darkspawn scourge.

"Tallis is headstrong, she fights dirty, and she has a really sarcastic sense of humor," says Day. "I wanted to bring a modern sensibility to a fantasy character in a fantasy world." A gamer herself, she’s aware of the pitfalls of video game adaptations. "I am an organic gamer and I love games, and I particularly love this franchise," she says. "I put every single effort into making this something that gamers will be proud of. Even though we were constrained a lot as a Web series, none of the people who were involved took that as a constraint. They took that as a challenge."

Interesting. As a convert to the series and a fan of Day’s work, I’m pretty intrigued to see what see and the rest of the crew involved are capable of doing with their adaptation.

The series is set to hit the web sometime this year. Dragon age 2 will be available for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 11.
