Cassandra

I enjoy the characters that Bioware creates. They are nuanced and realistic, full of personality, and generally voiced by some excellent talent. Cassandra Pentaghast is no exception, and this new video from Bioware shares a few new details on her character.

Miranda Raison voices Cassandra Pentaghast, the Right Hand of the Divine. She has changed since Dragon Age II – she’s still a tough cookie, but she seems to understand that people have their own agendas and backgrounds. At least, that’s how she seems to grudgingly feel about Varric.

I like the way Raison describes her. She’s not manly, she’s just a strong woman who isn’t a girly girl. That doesn’t mean she isn’t feminine, can’t be a good friend or even a devoted lover. Rather, she is her own person and doesn’t need to conform to gender roles. I really like the approach to her character – I’ll probably add her to my party just so that I can hear more of her ambient conversation.

Do you remember your favorite characters from Dragon Age? I found the Mass Effect characters to be more memorable, but maybe that’s because so many carried over from one game to the next, while Dragon Age has had rather different casts of characters in the two iterations thus far. I’m really excited to see all the returning characters, and hopefully this time their stories and backgrounds will be expanded upon even more.

Which characters are you hoping to play with again? Do you already know which type of character you’ll make to balance out your party, or will you only decide when you open character creation?

            Short answer: YES.

Long answer: Absolutely, without a doubt, the science is incontrovertable.

            I hope that covers it.

Gay = amazing. It’s NOT a slam, folks. Xena and Gabrielle are a gay couple, and they’re nothing short of awesome.

Next time you use the word gay, make sure you understand it is a compliment reserved for the best that humanity can offer.

DA2 was a shameless cash-in for a mass audience, the same problem with ME3 (although fairly to a lesser degree). Glad to see how much effort they’re putting in to this game.

Just a tiny booboo in the article:
“Do you already know which time of character…”

Nah, ME3 was not a shameless cash in. They wanted to be like each mission is a big, epic experience and I think job was well done. I loved it, the look and feel, the epicness of it all.

Yeah I was trying not to be too harsh on ME. I was trying to point out that if you compare the effort put in to DA:I with ME3 there’s a bit of a gap in breadth and scope IMO.

I will likely play as either a rogue or warrior so I’ll need a tank, a rogue (locks don’t pick themselves) and at least one mage in my party, preferably two mages.
My DA:O party was my rogue, Allistair, Morrigan, Wyne and Dog.

      I had a similar play-style to you;
My warrior, Shale, Morrigan, Leliana, Dog (added mod to always have dog in party).
Switched them out with the other characters whenever I felt the story would benefit most from them being present.

The only time I changed my party was when I was forced to have someone in my party (Oghren) or when going into the Dark Road with Shale.

IIRC there were quite a few non-compulsory switch-outs that you could benefit from. Like I used Zevran for the Brecilian Forest.

It depends on the eyes. She looks gorgeous to me. But, then again, a lot of guys don’t get it when women gamers object to being stuck on a battle field with a toon with breasts so huge they’d cause back pain, with armor more appropriate for a hooker.

I had a back and forth with a developer who REALLY, REALLY did not get the problem, especially since the girly armor offered much greater protection… Because, of course, women gamers need to be treated like 2 year olds. I ended up so annoyed by his attitude I vowed I’d never play his games even if they were given to me free.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, folks. Cassandra looks absolutely gorgeous considering the bubble head toons game companies often foist on anyone wishing to play as a woman.

I dont care about her chest or armour. Her facial structure needs work imo. You dont see such a structure out there. So its a bit hard to digest. She does not need to be a model, but now its a bit off a overcompensating in the facial anatomy.

This is a video game. A fantasy. It ain’t real. If I kill someone in the game, it doesn’t make me a murderer or that I fantasize about killing people with fire.
Besides, it’s a developers own creative freedom to make whatever he/she desires. It’s not reality, so why should it conform to realism? Especially in a fantasy RPG which has stuff like dragons and magic.
Speaking about unrealistic representations of women in video games..
What about men? All guys are a bunch of bulky guys with 8-packs and a schlong as long as their leg. (Hey, that rhymes!) But I still haven’t seen someone screaming how sexist Superman’s costume is.
          So.. Ain’t that a bit of a double-standard?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, remember? People like different stuff.
And she does have a bulky man-jaw to be fair, and it’s alright if someone doesn’t like it.
          Because it’s a fantasy.

You know, your whole comment sort of undermines your statement. You say “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” but then go on about complaining that “That’s not how a woman is. Real women have curves” etc.

          What the fork.

Is the headline correct? Cassandra from Soul Calibre is a strong woman, surely?

WYNN for the win, really now, Zoe. I loved her character and the fact that she had so many tactics points I could do as I wished with her in combat, without ever touching her. She really sticks out for me, as does Wrex, um, I mean the Golem type character. Very funny.

Only characters from DA 1 I really liked to take along and missed in 2, were Leliana and Morrigan. In nr 2 I really liked taking was Isabella. The rest of the characters I only took when it made sense, but for those 3 I made a plan to fit them in as much as possible. Mass effect it was a much harder choice between companions. But where could I go without Garus, Wrex and Grunt

Tali and Samara for me in ME2, and Tali and Liara in ME3, at least for my MaleShep

Tali is mah gurl, couldn’t leave her behind on the ship.

My current FemShep drags Garrus along a lot of time, along with Liara for the Biotic side of things.

I watched the movie with her in. Really looking forward to “using” her in my “party” 😛

I think she’s hot – and I surely wouldn’t kick her out of bed. I heard there is an openly gay character and was disappointed it was NOT Cassandra. Oh, well… One can always hope. 🙂
