DriveClub offers free premium DLC as an apology

Another game that hasn’t had the best of launches this year, has to be DriveClub.. The game was meant to be Sony’s next big franchise, a first step into a gloriously realised online racing world. Instead, that side of the game has essentially become the post office strike, with DriveClub now entering week six of ongoing online feature delivery issues. Naturally, folks are angry. So prepare to be appeased.

Because the game will be handing out plenty of its premium DLC that demands a pretty penny, for free. According to the game’s Facebook page, players will get access to the November DLC pack, which gives them the following goodies:

These premium DLC packs – The Ignition Expansion Pack and Photo-Finish Tour Pack along with two livery packs – will give you a total of five new cars, 22 new tour events, 10 new trophies and 10 new livery items to play with online and offline.

Sounds good, right? If you happen to be a season pass holder, you’re probably fuming right now, thinking that you’re getting a gimped selection of goodies thanks to these appeasement protocols. Worry not however, because the season pass will be extended to feature four new packs of DLC in July according to developer Evolution Studios:

The Season Pass will be extended to include four extra packs in July 2015 to ensure players who purchased the pass get everything that was promised. So on top of the free DLC in November, the Season Pass will still include 38 cars, 176 tour events and 80 unique liveries.

Tuesday sees the latest title update released for the game which includes a photo mode, tuned multiplayer collisions and various other tweaks. There’ll also be some new tracks on offer which include circuits in India, Scotland and Chile. I like Driveclub, I really do. The core game is fast, fluid and carries that Project Gotham Racing DNA that I like so much, while encouraging me to drive like a proper gentlemen and nie soos a p**s jy weet?

It’s not a bad game at all, but it needs to fix the deal-maker attached to it, because there’s little else to elevate it above several other rather superb racing games available right now.

Is it enough to win back the punters? I do not think so, once the masses move, getting them back, how easily?

I’m not gonna buy it, they’re making enough cash with this sub par game through DLC so I will wait for the PS+ version the promised more than a year ago.

This must be the year with the MOST bad decisions and the MOST public apologies made by developers.

I have to say that they are the only ones that has offered some form of remuneration thus far. Every other company “works on the problem” and “looks into it”.

Sorry bud, back when I started gaming all the way up to the PS2 before the Internet fudged everything up, if a game was released broken it would get a total recall from all retailers. MONEY BACK.

Just because it now has an on-line multiplayer tick in the box, its still a broken product.

DEFECTIVE if you are not a gamer. DEFECTIVE = Money back.

Indeed, I can’t recall any games that were broken on the PS2, The had to make damn sure every game was tested thoroughly. The internet is being misused by the publishers because they can now release broken games and patch it later.

I had one dev BLAST me down on that subject. He said it is the only way that they can meet the deadline set by the share holders. Its here to stay.

Gaming used to have consumer watchdogs.

I think that Nintendo Seal of Quality that they had on all game boxes back in the 90s is more important now than ever.

The same shareholders who then complain when the stock price falls BECAUSE it was released too soon.
            Idiots.

Indeed, that Seal of Quality basically basically resurrected the gaming industry. The biggest problem was that anyone could make a game and sell it for Atari platforms. People got burned big time and over saturation followed. Now certain publishers are to big to fail.

Now consoles are turning into PCs but in a way that the consumers can be exploited by publishers because every ones online, they can sell broken games and not be held accountable because it will be fixed eventually. They apologize on one hand while the other hand sends of sales figures to the suits.

what other superb racing games? Other than NFS: Rivals, there’s nothing else on the PS4 right now. Project Cars was delayed.
