Look up. Do you see pigs flying? There should definitely be aerial bacon of some sort, because DriveClub’s PlayStation Plus edition is actually out. Like right now. Yes, really. Really.
Sony and Evolution studios have confirmed that the free digital edition of the driving game hit the PlayStation store today, after accidentally being released (and summarily yanked) yesterday.

“We’ve spent a long time preparing for this launch after some difficult and unexpected set-backs,” said Sony Worldwide boss Shuhei Yoshida on the PS blog yesterday. “To make absolutely certain that all players have the smoothest and most stable experience possible we are going to be duly cautious about how we release the game this time around.”
You’ll be able to download the game, and play its modes offline, with online access being rolled out slowly to ensure that the servers don’t hit capacity and ruin the experience for everyone.
“We are taking extra precautions to protect your experience when you do get online,” added Yoshida. “We want to make sure we don’t overload the servers as we invite millions of PS Plus members to download the game tomorrow.”
Speaking to Kotaku, Yoshida expressed embarrassment over DriveClub’s launch issues, explaining why they happened in the first place.
“It’s just the number of people the server couldn’t handle,” he said. “The stress-testing was not designed correctly. So it was the oversight. So the team had to go back to the drawing board in terms of server code. And they have been re-factoring and re-engineering server-side to be able to have more people play the game at the same time.”
It wasn’t an easy fix, and it took months until DriveClub worked the way it was meant to. The game was kinda good when it was launched, but has since been patched and tinkered with, and is now actually a pretty good (and exceptionally pretty) racing game.
Hopefully this release gets people playing the game, even if just out of curiosity. You can grab it right now from the PSN store. The download will set you back 14.7GB., with an additional 10.5GB update to go along with it.

Just checked and there’s loads of free DLC and the most expensive DLC is R87. So that’s not too bad I guess. They should sell server stability as DLC XD

“It’s just the number of people the server couldn’t handle,” Stemming from this I think the problem was having only one server……….????
