Dualshock 3 – Video Review

I spotted this dual shock 3 review and it reminded me of something I should have posted about previously.

I recently had a chat with the ladies over at SterKinekor and at some time during the conversation the local release date of the Dualshock 3 controller came up. I have been expecting a May/June release and to be honest I didn’t ever enquire before as I could see no reason why we wouldn’t be getting this time slot.

Well apparently I should have asked before as we are not getting it in May or June, in fact we are currently only expected to get the DualShock 3 in Q4 or Q1 of 2009.

Now one of my biggest dislikes about the PS3 is the lightweight controller and lack of rumble.

So if you were thinking of holding out on your PS3 purchase until the rumbling controllers were released then you are in for a long wait. You could always just import one though.

Importing seems to be the only option with most things these days. You get it earlier and cheaper.

I didn’t ask since the due date is so far away I don’t even think SK has a clue yet. It will depend very much on what happens with our exchange rate.

As for a completely uneducated guess? I would be shocked if it came in under R500… but I have been shocked before

Let’s hope that some of our better retailers (Zaps, AWX, GE) take matters into their own hands and import the controllers.

If PS3 owners are willing to shell out R400 for a demo, i’m sure they won’t mind paying R500-R600 for an imported controller, so it can feel as cool as their PS2 used to feel. 🙂

If they charging that much then doesnt Sony just release the boomerang controller?

I doubt local retailers will import and sell it. It would be too difficult to support a warranty considering the cost of postage and packaging.

I think SK has too much stock of SixAxis and bringing in Dual Shock in too early will leave that stock dead in the water. That’s the only explanation i can think of.

I think it’s probably just “SA backwater” status again. They have to fill out all forthcoming consoles with DS3’s but at the same time every existing user is going to want one.

Ok, so either Ster Kinekor has loads of excess stock, as Milesh said, or we’re going to be used as a dumping ground for the world’s unwanted Sixaxes because it appears they’re no longer in production. Alternatively, SK doesn’t know what it’s talking about.
