Dying Light will run at 30fps 1080p on PS4

Dying-Light

It’s been several weeks since we’ve had to mention any of that resolution or frames per second silliness on the website. Several glorious weeks of focusing only on the games. But because I’m essentially a shaved Grinch, I’m going to bring that topic up all over again. That’ll teach you all to buy me second-hand socks for Christmas.

According to Dying Light lead designer Maciej Binkowski who was asked the question of graphical importance on Ask.FM via VG247, the game will indeed run at 1080 peas at 30 brains per second. I mean 1080p at 30 frames per second. Yes, that. Speaking to GameSpot, a representative for developer Techland gave further clarification on the graphics:

1080p/30 fps is what we have right now, it is what is constant, and what we’re sure we can deliver in the final product, but the work is still ongoing, and even though we have no more than two weeks left, things can still change. So even though the answer is accurate I would change the question–it’s not what we target, it is what we will deliver 100 percent.

Mind you, this is for the PlayStation 4 version of the game. The Xbox One version was not discussed. It’s been an interesting development process for Dying Light so far. The game looks rather scrumptious on current-gen and PC, with the E3 build having particularly stunning environments. Environments so detailed, that the old-gen versions had to be canned entirely, as Techland remarked a few months ago that those systems “just couldn’t run the game”

Whats the point in having a pretty game when you have to stop moving to be able to appreciate it?
Wolfensteinn sacrificed pretty graphics for fluid 60fps gameplay and it was GREAT.

Why doesn’t it follow a similar approach to the zombies? 30fps during the day, 60 at night.

most prolly invert that. Zombies run at 60fps, humans at 30. Or at least, with my luck.

because people will never go back. I was on the “your eyes cant see framerate” band wagon.

I made RinceThis play a section of TLOU on 30fps without telling him, then after 5 minutes I switched it to 60fps.

His mind was blown. Any Tom Dick and Harry can SEE and feel the extra responsiveness.

I switched it back to 30fps, he was silent.

That’s part of the argument, he didn’t know better until it was pointed out.

I don’t know why people keep talking about this… I really miss the Nintendo Vs Sega era… We talked about the games, now is all frames per sec… Boring…

Immersion. Otherwise we will still be happy watching BETA tapes on our HF TVs.

I never understood why I had to upgrade my TV to a widescreen either. Just stick black cardboard bars on the top and bottom of the screen 😛

I actually think those old cartridge games run faster. No loading screen needed either 😛

I know we need to advance… But all game media seems to be focused on frames per second and resolution. Is a fact games consoles will not make any better than what they are doing now (PS4 and XOne), and knowing that, I thing media must focus in the game in general… Does it run nice? Have frame drops? Looks good? And more important… Is it fun? Delivers the experience it promise?

          hear hear.
Anyway, its a technical fact that open world games cannot handle 60fps as they stream a radius as you move, its not pre-loaded. That is why the 4.2gigs of skyrim is smaller than today’s average patch.
But considering I spent twice as much for a next gen console I expect a certain standard.
It seems only The Last of Us remastered and FORZA are the only games from 2014 that can call themselves next gen and its a last gen game lol.

Give it time. Remember God of War 2 came out in the 5th year of the PS2 and it was PS3 quality.

Like those MODDED SKYRIM screen shots. No way in hell the gameplay can render those faster than 2 frames a second.

As long as the PC version hits the originally intended 60fps at whatever resolution we set (provided we have the hardware), the consoles can bicker over which one is slightly better than the other without incident.

I wish Dragon Age had 60fps. LOOTING games should mandatory require 60fps even if the res goes down to 720p.

Having to resort to erratic camera panning to freeze pan freeze pan freeze just to find that Elfroot in the annoying FUZZY BLUR WHILE MOVING is CRAP.

LOOTING in TLOU Remastered is a dream. Never mind the CLEAN RESPONSIVE aiming.

After Metal Gear Vs 60fps, 30fps will die, gamers will expect 60fps as standard like it was promised on the PS3 back in 2007.
