The Adventures of Tintin would be my very first 3D demo viewing of the show. So as you can expect I was very excited and quickly walked around to the other side of the Ubisoft booth.

I went through a secret entrance and emerged into a very dark room and held one of the biggest 3D TV’s I have ever seen. Ubisoft really hasn’t spared any expense pushing this game, and just to give you a reference – out of all the games I have seen in closed room so far, this one is by far the best. We all sat down and after a special video introduction to the game from Mr. Steven Spielberg himself, we put on our 3D glasses and the demo began. Hit the jump for The Adventures of Tintin.

It is difficult to talk about a game that has been made inspired by a movie that hasn’t even been released yet. I have seen a few things that I definitely can’t talk about and I was a bit disappointed as I have been looking forward to the movie for a while. But we move on with the day.

Just as a forward note, for now I am going to let the 3D bit slide. The game will be released for 3D TV’s but most of us don’t have or can’t afford a 3D TV so in the interest of reaching a broader audience I will just say that it is cool, and if you are fortunate to have the option, definitely go with the 3D as it is simply brilliant. On to the game.

To summaries, Tintin the videogame is mostly a side-scrolling game. The action does move to all different kinds of view point, but for the most part it retains the classic. I think the choice to primarily focus on this kind of view point was clever on the developer’s parts. It brings a classic sense and one that fits really well with the Tintin franchise considering how old it is.

But don’t think for one moment that the gameplay is old and classic. In fact, the gameplay in Tintin is very advanced and the characters move very smoothly and from what I could tell by looking at the guy playing it, very responsive.

The levels that hold this gameplay are great and present a lot of variety. One moment you are on a sinking ship as water rises all around you, the next you are in a desert riding a motorbike. They have really done a brilliant job on the level design and it is all mixed perfectly together with a brilliant soundtrack taken straight from the movies score.

The game includes drop in and drop out co-op play, and in some circumstances you can switch out characters at will. For instance, in the level where you travel into the Captains dreams (this is a really trippy level) you will be playing as Tintin, get to a very small hole in a wall standing in your way and will have to change to Snowy the dog to crawl through the space and then change back to Tintin on the other side. It is a great way of keeping things interesting and fresh as each character has unique abilities and attributes.

Other than that we didn’t get to see as much of the game as I would have liked. But from the small tidbit I did see I can certainly recommend the game for any fan on the Tintin franchise. It is still early days so keep a look out for more info on The Adventures of Tintin hitting the site in the months to come.
