E3 2015 – Meet Guitar Hero Live’s new rock ‘n roll axe

Guitar-Hero-axe-(13)

THE AXE! Mightiest of weapons in all of mighty Rock ‘n Roll Valhalla! And the plastic version was even better, when strumming out a few chords to the tune of classic metal music. Guitar Hero Live however, is bringing a brand new axe to the table. Check it out.

GHlive

You might remember the previous generation of Guitar Hero peripherals. Pretty much a decent size, the bulk of the music came from a variety of frets, hammered home like a power-chord on a Metallica album while your other hand jiggled a switch at the base of the guitar. Not too much has changed then with the current Guitar Hero prototype. But it has become a whole new ball-game to become familiar with.

That’s because the current guitar now includes six buttons at the base, divided into black and white columns. The key here, is to hit those keys in succession and on time, but the entirely new physical design actually makes it…challenging. Just ask this local knob who completely failed at strumming out a Green Day song:

I dig it however. As the Guitar Hero Live devs explained to me, it was time for a change. Bringing in the exact same guitar would have been boring. Now, they have an instrument that was new for everyone. And much like an actual guitar/ your zipper, it’s easy to learn and challenging to master. But it felt damn good to have a battleaxe in my hands again as I played some wizard notes. Every once in a while.

The only thing that I hated with Guitar Hero is struggling with a song to such an extent that I strip my moer and just go learn it on real guitar in no time haha!

        Haha. Excellent.
Anyone who says owning a real guitar is too expensive is lying. Or that it’s too difficult.
I just couldn’t spend money on this plasticky thing and try to justify it. But it could just be me.

So… If you lose your pinky in some freak accident you can still use this guitar since you only need 3 fingers. Darryn looks so focused, what difficulty were you on before you went to regular mode.

looking at his fingers and that he’s only playing the top row of buttons, looks like he failed on easy mode.
      >_>

Darryn is terrible at all games that aren’t called Dragonball or Naruto. Terrible.

So all genres except fighting games because smashing buttons like a crazy man will make you win anyway XD

no, the only dragon ball games he’s good at are the ones from budokai 3 onwards, the ones where you only have to hit 2 buttons or 1 to use a combo.
budokai 1/2 where you had to punch punch kick kick energy, to kamehameha, he was trash at those.

so no, no mashing in games that only require you to hit 2 buttons.

    SIX BUTTONS?
    what the actual?
and who was talking about gaming being easier than it used to be?

how does that extra button show up on the screen? is it all in a single line like old guitar hero, or is it split into two lines somehow like the new guitar?

It’s got to do with position on screen. There’s a row of three black keys, and a row of three white keys, and its based on their relative position.

I’ve noticed the guy says the top 3 are for the black hit notes and the bottom 3 for the white. So i take it it’ll remain 3 lines but with the white and black mixed up for harder difficulty.

i guess getting them mixxed up, when theres only 3 in a line, isnt really possible.

in that sense, it probably sounds easier than befor. no need to worry about your fingers being one key down and completley missing everything when playing hard/expert.
adding a 6th button for added difficutly, then making it easier… mmmm…

gna be a while till i order this.
they said it would be backwards compatible with ps3, previous videos showing the devs playing the game on old guitars, i assumed that would mean i could use my old guitar, now i have to drop R1000 for a guitar + game

Yeah, would be interesting how they implement the old guitar with the new game, or you might have to buy the new guitar anyway since you know, devs see how easy it is to milk the cash cow now. If they can fix the problem where your guitar strum down dies after a few months of playing that would be awesome. Literally went through 3 guitars because of the poor strumming prefs in the guitar and i cant find anywhere in this god forsaken country the stuff to replace just the strumming.

            theyr definitely cash cowing it.
one does not make it more difficult, then make it easier, without having money on the mind.

durability wasnt a key aspect of their stuff hey?
my drums from band hero, pretty much useless, i wrecked those…
and my one guitar just died, no reason, just dead…

Well considering a fretboard on a real guitar has about 144 “buttons” that are bendable, I think 6 is pretty conservative.

yeah, not going to get into the guitar vs guitar hero thing.
but thinking on it more, in comments further down the page, 6 buttons in a 3+3 format doesnt sound as difficult as 5 buttons in a line.
