EA is busy with a Garden Warfare sequel

I still haven’t managed to play EA’s highly successful shooter spin-off of Plants vs. Zombies, Garden Warfare. The third-person shooter takes the most colourful plant life and undead creatures from the popular strategy title and mashes them together in an addictive, team-based multiplayer setting. Or, at least, Geoff keeps telling me it’s addictive – which is probably why a sequel is currently in development.

EA has already revealed that it’s planning a Plants vs. Zombies title for 2016, but a recent listing on their jobs page all but confirms that it’s going to be an entry into what is becoming a Garden Warfare franchise. The first references a new Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare sequel directly – with an Interface Designer being sought after.

“Popcap HD is looking for a talented Interface Designer to help bring the UI of a new Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare game to life”

Another doesn’t say a word about Garden Warfare, but instead lists the need for a Designer to help with creating missions for an online shooter – again a post listed by Popcap.

“We are currently seeking a Designer/Scripter to help us create engaging mission experiences for an upcoming shooter.”

It’s not that surprising, given the popularity of the first title on nearly all platforms. Garden Warfare exists as a fun, off-beat online shooter rather than an extremely serious one – retaining the ridiculous tone of the game it originates from. Plants vs. Zombies 2, a sequel to the traditional strategy title, was not as warmly received – thanks to an over-dependance on microtransactions.

So will we see EA formally reveal it on stage at E3? Possibly, probably, almost definitely. Hopefully I’ll get to playing it this time around too.

I scored a free copy of Garden Warfare earlier this year, or was it last year. I honestly can’t remember, but I enjoy it for what it is. I still play it on occasion (trying to unlock the last few plants and zombie skins). I’ll still wait for the price to drop on the sequel though, but my interest has been piqued.

I’ve played countless hours of PvZ: GW! It’s ridiculously addictive. Looking really forward to the sequel.
