By now, you’re probably aware that there will be no third party dedicated servers for Battlefield 1. EA is hosting the servers themselves, and will allow you to rent servers for the game for limited periods.
Here, according to them is why:
“In the past, servers were handled by third-party companies – now, EA is providing them directly. We think this will benefit you in several ways. First off, we will be able to secure the quality of the actual hardware. Since the servers come from the same provider, it will give everyone the same uniform experience. Furthermore, if you have questions or need help, you will be able to reach out to EA Support directly instead of third party support.”
It’s a bit of a mess, because while rumours have abounded that there may be a server located in South Africa, there’s been no real confirmation of that. It’s made many people rightfully cancel their pre-orders, waiting for more information.
Yesterday, EA released the pricing information for the servers it’ll be hosting. It is, I suppose reasonable – but not exactly cheap. Oddly, there’s a price disparity between the PC and console servers, with PC pricing coming in higher. Here’s how much you’ll pay to rent a Battlefield 1 server.
PC
- 1 day: $2.99
- 7 days: $11.99
- 30 days: $42.99
- 90 days: $99.99
- 180 days: $149.99
PLAYSTATION® 4 / XBOX ONE
- 1 day: $1.99
- 7 days: $7.99
- 30 days: $26.99
- 90 days: $64.99
- 180 days: $99.99
While that’s answered the question of price, EA and Dice have done nothing to allay fears that we in South Africa will be stuck with the 200ms+ pings that we generally have to Europe. As for the server features, here’s what you can expect:
Among many other settings, players renting servers will be able to adjust:
- ticket count
- bullet damage
- modes
- weapons
- maps
Mweb Gamezone’s kept their eyes on the official forums, spotting a few things directed at Battlefield North American Community Manager, Jeff Braddock – including this comment from somebody called DefencerX.
“Will there be SOUTH EAST ASIA (more specifically Singapore) region for rental? I see that south africa has been added to the list. We are the next. We really need more region specificity (instead of just ASIA=japan) because the pings are really bad for us. The best connection I have is ~180 to 200ms to Japan.” DefencerX wrote.
Unfortunately, I’m unable to find this list – so it all remains conjecture right now. We should find out more information on the region specifics tomorrow. The question now is whether or not the muddy rent-a-server program has led you to have doubts about buying Battlefield 1.

Once did an audi track day there. Took a 4 wheel drive Audi sporty something round a particular corner at close to 150km/h. The instructor made me build up to it, progressively faster and faster.
He said I could drive ok, but not well enough in this short to time to do the corner at 180km/h like he did. The feeeeeeeeellllllssssssss. wow. that was awesome. Was on the old track, of course, more or less the one they used for F1. Other corners? much, much slower, of course.
So expensive…… But I loved it.

I drive a car capable of some good speed and great acceleration, for a non million rand 4 door sedan, and I know of some places in and around Pretoria where I can have a bit of fun, BUT I would never, on the open road, drive to speeds like that, even when it all seems quiet. It is not just about me, but about other people that may be lurking just out of sight, that I then connect with rudely. I simply cannot do it.
I am going away this weekend and seriously looking forward to the trip, as there are some places on the trip I can have a bit of fun with, in a safe manner. With wife and two kids in car…..

You know, this blind hate for EA really got me questioning the smarts of the so called clever people. Get this into your skull, snowflake, and quite frankly not only you but the rest of the haters here: EA is a business. They are out to make money.
How does a business make money? By offering products (games) and services (server rentals) at a price they deem fit.
What exactly is the problem with a company that wants to make money in a bloody free market economy?
If you ask me, the real problem is not EA, but gamers that got their heads so far up their own asses they cannot see the shit they keep swallowing from their own selves from this thing called real life.
Archdruid Kromas

I personally have nothing against EA and I think their service center is one of the best out there. However their pricing is sometimes just plain silly and their DLC practices are terrible.
Then again I complain with my money. Simple as that. Same reason I don’t own the DLC for ARK.
The problem is not gamers compaining at all. You are very wrong about that. The problem is when gamers complain and still pre-order.

Left side of the bed this morning, then?
you normally do not hold punches, but this is a bit heavy (the tone), even for you. HOWEVER, I do believe you are correct.
If the majority of the punters are willing to pay for it, a business will offer it and make the monies that way. Awesome. I am trying to set up business like that. Make money, be greedy, but charge what pay will pay, not necessarily what it is worth. AND how do you define what a product is worth, anyway? Product costs? What it can do for the customer? Tricky.
Dutch Matrix
October 20, 2016 at 09:27
Ha. You can say left of the bed, but no. I honestly speaking do not get the hate and ridicule that EA suffers at the hands of gamers on this site. I will be the first to admit EA has made a mess of things in the past. Dungeon Keeper on mobile and Deep Space 3 from what I understand to name a few. So no, they are not perfect. But the EA games that I have played recently have been stuff I love, the Origin client has been improved (not that it ever was a problem to begin with) and even with all the DLC I have paid for, every cent I have thrown at them has been worth it. And from what I hear, Battlefield 1 is actually a pretty decent game.
But the real bad guys, Gabe and his bunch are revered as gods because Steam. Because Steam sales. Because this because that.
And where is the conclusion to Half Life? But no. Let’s rather moan and bitch about the Tri-color Mass Effect 3 ending, right? EA HATEZ ALL GAMERZ BECUZ CRAPPY ENDING!

On that point, I see CNA honored the pre-order at R600 for PC. Too bad it ain’t for me haha 🙂

Riiiiiight so I guess I’m still gonna be jamming bf4 and if I feel like old school bf I’ll lan some 1942. Really liked you bf1. But it appears EA is determined to keep us apart.

I just wrote many words about how the EA networking in SA sucks balls… if I had BF1 on pre-order I’d be cancelling right now

I’m not an FPS MP fan AT ALL, but this game really had me interested. Now that’s dead. 🙁

There is a FPS MP game on kickstarter that I backed called battallion 1944 that looks super good.

Lol … I am rank 101. Have not played in a long while though as the latency is terrible.

I’ve seen that, but like I said, not big on FPS MP. Battlefield 1 had me interested because of the setting.

Yeah, agreed. Something ‘fresh’ more or less

The way I see it is that when a guy who has a sub 50ms ping is standing over my lifeless body T-bagging the crap out of me it’s the same thing as Usain Bolt celebrating a victory at the Paralympics.
Out here we are handicapped by our Pings and when we have a good game and wreck it’s so much better. For the most part, the difference we’re talking about is smaller than the average human reaction time especially in arena shooters. Yeah it’s frustrating but ultimately I think it makes us better players.
When I do manage to get a solid low latency connection, man I feel unstoppable….

This should not stop SA from competing on the world stage when it comes to Bf1

Guys i ve just read all the comments and i am now confused…can somebody please explain something.
Are we going to have a bf 1 severs here in sa to play on ? is it free or do we have to pay?
TIA
Geoffrey Tim

You won;t have to pay to play – it’s only if you want to play on your own dedicated server. We dont know if those dedicated rented servers will be in SA though.

OK, so what i am hearing is that we dont have confirmation from EA as to if they intend to host a SA sever ?
mmm, too much uncertainty, i will cancel pre-order and spend the money on steam Halloween sale, pick up a few games

EA : We want to provide an even game play experience for all players therefor we will host the server
Players : Really ? so we do not have servers in africa? so you mean we have to play on European servers with 200ms pings while everyone else has 50 and less, how is that even????????????????????????????????????
EA : Because reasons , oh look, graphics , explosions, FUN
Players : Oh look , BF4
