EA Wins… refuses to be censored by Australia

Syndicate

We are thankful for EA for many reasons locally, not least of which is the way they are keeping our local game prices down by manufacturing locally.

And now we have another one as they have officially announced that they won’t subject Syndicate to arcane censorship or cuts for an Australian release and as such will simply not release the title in Australia.

It’s regrettable that government policy in Australia is denying adults the right to play Syndicate,” the publisher said in a statement.

“The game will be not be available in Australia despite its enthusiastic response from fans”

“continue to force an arcane censorship on games – cuts that would never be imposed on books or movies,” it declared.

“We urge policy makers to take swift action to implement an updated policy that reflects today’s market and gives its millions of adult consumers the right to make their own content choices”

Nice one EA and while I do feel sorry for the Australians now I am happy to see that a corporation isn’t going to gimp it’s creative artwork for the pleasure of some idiotic Australian politicians. Hopefully more companies will refuse to allow themselves to be censored moving forward.
