EA won’t give up until Battlefield is ‘number 1’

Battlefield number 1

Nothing beats a good rivalry when it comes to entertainment. And when it comes to competition, nothing is bigger than the contention between two of the biggest shooters on the market today, Call of Duty and Battlefield. Thing is, Call of Duty wins every single year when the two shooters take each other on, thanks to sales. But Battlefield isn’t going down without a fight.

“Competition is good,” said EA Games EVP Patrick Soderlund to MCV. “It brings the best out of people. If there was only Battlefield or only Call of Duty, then the development teams might have been a little bit more content. We don’t look at them necessarily and mimic what they do”.

But we think about them. Maybe they weren’t thinking about us much when we made Battlefield 3, but I can tell you, they are thinking about us now. They need too. We made a dent in the FPS market and we took share from them. And I am not going to give up until I’m No.1 and I am going to make sure I’m No.1.

We are spending a tonne of money on this, our teams are killing themselves every year to make great games. I want to give our consumers the best I can. We will strive to be No.1. If I said: ‘No.5 is probably fine,’ it’s hard for people to rally behind that message.

But I wouldn’t say we could be No.1 if I didn’t think we could. I think I have the right team, the right product and the right strategy to get there.

It’s going to be a tight launch window once again though. Battlefield is out October 29, while Call of Duty: Ghosts arrives November 5. And that’s not counting the fact that October and November will also see the release of games such as Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Batman Arkham Origins and Watch Dogs.

Gamers only have so much cash to spend, so it’s going to be one hell of a battle to see who comes out on top.

I think it’s because CoD is’nt complicated. You simply run in and shoot stuff, unless you play in comps. I also believe it has a faster pace, which people like.

Premium is listed as bonus content, but really, its essential.

So you go COD for R550, then every time they release a map pack you pay an additional 150.. Lets say 4 Map packs. That is R1150 ?
With BF 4 Premium you get 5 DLC, that will include new maps, weapons and game modes oh yea and something that COD does not have, awesome vehicles.

          R450
once premium came out for bf3, the only map that was really played after that, was metro and one or two vehicle based maps.
the Premium bonuses to jump the queue was also bullshit

CoD still plays all the maps when the DLC is released.

Battlefield is optimised for PC, CoD is favoured by the masses for console, so I reckon this war depends on how well BF is executed on console otherwise its a no brainer

      well, xbox atleast.
its down to specifically the new gen consoles, if BF4 can take the PS4 away from CoD, theyr in with a chance.

COD – Fast running, fast paced shooting…Tubing
BF – Tactical warfare, think what you doing and concentrate for long amounts of time.

I always see these 2 games as very different, although they always face off together they are just not the same genre.

I reckon the Halo franchise should be keeping an eye on Titanfall. COD and Battlefield shouldn’t be too shaken up with it’s imminent success.Something bout actual relatable soldiers will always have an appeal over the jet packs and body suites of futuristic shooters.

CoD is easy, played it for a long time, got bored quickly with it, Battlefield however, seems to change constantly. And on top of that, Battlefield is way more Open World orientated and mass war than concentrated Special Ops like wars like CoD. Both games are in a league of their own.
