EA would delay Star Wars: Battlefront if it wasn’t working

battlefront

Batman’s PC release has been a bit of a fustercluck, with the game being pulled from shelves leaving the mustard race to wallow in self-pity. The game should have been delayed on PC, and though that may have pissed a lot of people off, it would have pissed them off less than the pad PR that comes from having to recall a broken port. It’s something EA promises won’t happen with their impending Star Wars game, Battlefront.

Speaking to MCV (via Videogamer), EA’s Peter Moore said that EA would have no qualms with delaying Battlefront if it wasn’t meeting quality standards.

…”you can’t ship it if it doesn’t work or the quality isn’t right. You just bite the bullet. Trust me, shipping [Battlefield] Hardline in March was not the easiest thing to do from a business perspective, but it was the right thing to do from a player perspective.”

Battlefield Hardline was delayed from October 2014 to March 2015 so it could be “as great as it can be.” Unfortunately for EA, it couldn’t really be all that great. What they won’t let happen again though, is what we saw with Battlefield 4, which was launched in a semi-playable state, and then patched to be broken. It took months until Battlefield 4 was playable for many.

“We’d have no compunction, no hesitation that if something went wrong with Battlefront, if it wasn’t right, we would just push it.”

“But that’s not going to happen,” he continued. “The game is playable with 40-players already, and it is rock solid, so it ain’t going to happen”.

And it’s a better tactic, to be honest. While many will moan about a delay, they’ll end up far less begrudging than if they were the unfortunate recipients of a broken game. And if that’s the sort of thing EA’s willing to do with Battlefront, then Warner Bros. needs to take a long, deep look in the mirror.

Our own Alessandro went hands on with the game, and according to him, it’s worth waiting for.

Same first name and initials as another certain prolific soothsayer of all things gaming that end up being ‘cut’ due to time constraints…. Coincidence?

It was the right thing to do “from a business perspective”.

Read it as “it was the only thing we could do after the fuster-cluck that was the BF4 launch… Didn’t want another one of those on our hands!”

Server issues, totally unrelated to what’s wrong with Batman. But EA wont admit that. Speaking of BF4….. is it working yet?

Honestly speaking, I got it on PS4 for cheap-cheap at BT – I think it was R149 – about 8 months after launch. Worked really well then – never had an issue… I actually really enjoyed my time with the game – was fun to play. It did require an 8GB patch (the largest I’d seen up to that point… That is until Halo:MCC came out with it’s 21GB ‘patch’…), but was worth it, I think – especially at the bargain price I got it for…

Wasn’t sure about this one because of the MP focus… #SPForever But seeing as they are now proclaiming how the SP is really good and a ton of fun, it’s now intriguing me more and more. The more I see of Battlefront, the more I like what I’m seeing… Keen to see how it’ll turn out. Still not sure if I’ll pre-order – wanna be a cautious panda after the spate of launch issues in the last 18 months… But it’s most definitely on my radar.

    Haha. Typical EA PR.
Oh, look, everyone is releasing broken games. Maybe telling people we’ll delay instead of releasing a broken game will be a great selling point.
Come on, what kind of idiots do they take us for?

EA be like “Preorders must be secured! Profits first, whiny gamers……not first, or second…….or third…….tell you what, day one patch it and if it doesn’t work release a statement that begins with: We are aware that some, remember to use some not all or half or most, gamers are experiencing issues”

        Haha.
WB makes a pc game mistake (like EA has many times before) and suddenly EA jumps on the bandwagon to say they won’t release a broken game.
Pot calling the kettle black, I say.

to be fair, they may be the king of the douchebag publishers, picking up franchises and turning them into generic moneymaking shooters, but theyr atleast sorta consistant.

bf4 was a mess, but otherwise their games actually work day 1 or at most, day 1 + patch.
