What a great time to be alive. Gone are the days of going outside, breathing in fresh air and doing things. Instead we can sit back and enjoy watching gamers play in tournaments for ridiculous amounts of money. If you haven’t planned your weekend yet, my advice is don’t – we’ve got some great local and international tournaments just one click away.

The Dota 2 International

This needs no introduction. The Dota 2 International is reaching it’s final stages with just five matches left. The remaining teams are: Evil Genius and CDEC (Winner bracket); Vici Gaming, Virtus.Pro, and LGD Gaming in the lower bracket. The games will be broadcasted live on the The Dota 2 International Twitch Stream.  Times below are all CAT (GMT+2). Don’t forget your local pub stomps!

standings day 4

  • LGD Gaming vs. Virtus.Pro – 20:00
  • Evil Genius vs. CDEC – 23:00
  • Vici Gaming vs. Winner of LGD vs. VP – 02:00

ESL Cologne, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

ESL Cologne, Intel Extreme Masters, is currently underway at Gamescom in Germany. The annual ESL Major runs alongside Gamescom, offering visitors the option of watching some of the best teams in Counter-Strike battle it out. The ESL format is interesting. Each year they invite “The Legends” (long standing top teams) and “The Challengers” (new teams who have proven themselves). $250,000 is what’s up for grabs, and these are your teams:

Legends

  • Fnatic
  • Luminosity Gaming
  • Mousesports
  • Natus Vincere
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • EnvyUS
  • Team SoloMid
  • Virtus.Pro

Challengers

  • Cloud9
  • Counter Logic Gaming
  • FlipSid3 Tactics
  • Renegades
  • Team eBettle
  • Team Immunity
  • Team Kinguin
  • Titan

The games are already underway on the official ESL stream. So if you’re bored at work, tune in. It is Friday after all. There are of course other titles such as Battlefield 4, Starcraft 2, but the main focus is, of course, on Counter-Strike.

Orena Galactic Slam

On Sunday local tournament hosts Orena are giving a little bit of much needed love to local Dota 2 with a tournament brought to you by Alienware and Intel. The Galactic slam is an invitational where four of South Africa’s top Dota 2 teams will battle it out for R10 000 winner takes all. The participants were chosen by their performance in Orena’s Battle For The Throne tournaments, with Energy eSports receiving top seed as the current throne holders. The invited teams are:

The tournament kicks off on Sunday at 14:00 on the official Orena stream. So you can kick back and enjoy some local Dota 2, for a change from The International.

Stay inside this weekend with some great eSports action. Don’t let peer pressure get the better of you.
