Everyone can fight on the left in Tekken 7

Still going left

Fighting games are always so popular, probably because friends love to beat each other up without the consequences of actual fights. Or, you know, because they like smashing buttons and pretending that they actually know combinations. Of course, people often rage about playing as Player One or Two, but that handicap might become a thing of the past.

Tekken 7 is the next game in the series and the developers are toying with a new small but interesting feature. Regardless of whether you’re Player One or Two, you can fight on the left-hand side of the screen (or the right-hand side if you prefer). Over on twitter, game director and chief producer Katsuhiro Harada showed off the feature for two-screen setups.

Typically, Player One defaults to the left side of the screen for normal play as well as for practice rounds. This means that combos and other actions are usually learned from this angle, making it a possible disadvantage for players who learn this way to then play as Player Two. With this camera option, both players could use their preferred location and direction on the screen. Of course, it would only apply to two screen setups.

The feature is still being Beta tested, so it’s unclear if it will make it into the final game. However, I think it’s a cool idea that would settle a lot of claims that fighting from one side or another was the cause of winning or losing.

I’ve found in some fighting games that I do better from the left or right depending on the character, but obviously it all comes down to combos and which directional buttons have an impact. In the end, I normally just smash buttons until I win anyway, regardless of which side of the screen I’m on.

I’m not the best fighting game player but I’ve never really experienced this “Left/right side confusion” thing.

When my character is on the left my brain adjusts the l/r of the joypad automatically and combos are the same on either side. I don’t get it?

Sigh, last time I fought I wasn’t left or right. I was surrounded and it wasn’t a video game either. Stupid malls.

Exactly what I was thinking. You’re gonna end up on the other side at some point.

    I agree.

Can always be on the left. When political correctness (or whinging) is in gaming.

I would like to inform developers that Tea should now be stirred in an anti clockwise motion.

Who the **** cares Teckon developers……

If you want pyschological evaulations based on demagraphics of games. Observe exibit A.

The picture displayed of the Split screen shows the Player in picture to the right and the same Player your honor is displayed to the left THUS giving the same player a mirror effect with their character standing in the middle. This will give a psychologicl advantage as the other players chacter is displayed in the both far reaches of the screen makingvthem feel isolated.

I conclude your honor that this gives my client an unfair start.

Seriously, when gaming does this it’s no longer gaming but stupitity. If this bothers people soooooo much why not one of you holding a control sit on one side or the other of the couch (why am I having to explain this)…….

There is no need to split a screen, like Lord Chaos said. “Your gonna end up on the other side at some point anyway.”

Developers please stop being stupid, this is why last years games were mostly shit…….Bring on Indie developers, AAA companies have lost touch.
