If you follow me on twitter, you’ll know that the main reason I was excited for the EA press conference was because they were going to show us Mass Effect. I mean, they had to, right? And they did, sort of. It was just a two-minute making-of video, when what we really wanted was a story or gameplay trailer. So, I might have hoped for more, but we have to make due with what we have, right? So here’s a deeper dive into what we could glean from those two minutes.
Your ship – The Tempest
That’s right, we have a name of our ship this time. Unlike the Normandy, this one is called Tempest. I can’t help but wonder if that’s an allusion to the Shakespearean play. Will we see a shipwreck and some strange magic in our future? At least the ship itself is looking pretty snazzy.
Fight against wildlife
Exploring new worlds could be a time of preservation and understanding the unique flora and fauna. Or, you know, killing everything, depending on your approach. I enjoyed killing wolves and bears in Dragon Age: Inquisition, and it seems that we’ll be able to do the equivalent while exploring new worlds in Mass Effect Andromeda. Of course, we shall see if that functions in the same way, or they are actually monsters and bosses on the different worlds.
Make an Asari smile, or afraid
Apparently everyone has a fetish for the Asari. I’m not part of that group, but I do enjoy those characters. This one is particular looks like she could be an ally in the game, or is she someone you interact with and threaten? Those shocked eyes in the second image are less than smiles and happiness.
The Mako is back and ready for desert hills
Many Mass Effect fans have a soft spot for the Mako, myself included. Sure, it had the worst handling of any vehicle in history (except for maybe those damn carriages in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate), but it was still so cool to get into your offered vehicle and explore an alien planet. We already knew that the Mako would be returning in Andromeda, but it looks like they’ve revamped it so that it might actually be fun to drive over the dunes.
With a Krogan by your side
Anyone else think the Krogans were the best? I loved Wrex and Grunt far too much in the original trilogy, and it looks like there will be a new teammate to love in the new installment in the franchise.
Wait, is this No Man’s Sky
Some of these words are rather pretty, and with a color palette that looks like images we’ve seen of No Man’s Sky.
Check out your protagonist
Geoff still refuses to believe that anyone played Mass Effect with a male Shepard. For him, there is only FemShep, and I’m sure many of you agree. This time around, I’ll bet that players can again choose to play as a male or female protagonist, but it’s great to see the female one as the first one we see in marketing materials.
Okay Bioware, I hope you show off a ton more during E3. I want to know when the game is coming, or at least see a trailer during the Microsoft conference. Don’t disappoint me.

But if you want to romance Williams, you gotta grow a pair and man up as Male Shep.

True, but I’d also be fine with throwing her out of the Normandy.

Nah, thanks. Jack is one seriously cray-cray hot mess. I’ve dated some messed-up women in my life, enough to know that schtupping Jack was a Baaaaaaad Idea. I think she’s the only romance option I didn’t bother with in any of the games lol

Wonder what theyr going to do with the skill tree this time round.
The games looking alot more RPGish this time round, would love a bit more choice in class building.
sorta like the ME3 multiplayer, I loved the Asari Justicar and would have loved some of those class options in the single player

I loved both Male Shep and Fem Shep, can enjoy both multiple playtroughs, don’t see why others cant plus don’t know why but Mark Meer reminds me allot of Nathan Fillion so i enjoy that hindrance to Fire Fly when exploring the Galaxy and stuff.
