Expect more PS4 exclusives at Gamescom

Right now, despite the fact that the PlayStation 4 has curried better favour with gamers, I actually think that the Xbox One has the better set of announced exclusives games. That could be set to change at Gamescom this year.

Sony’s hinted that it has 20 exclusive year one PlayStation 4 games up its sleeve – and to date has shown just five of them; Killzone: Shadow Fall, kiddie-friendly Knack, socially-connected DriveClub, The Order: 1889 and our favourite so far, Infamous : Second Son.

That’s admittedly not a lot, and it makes you wonder exactly why PlayStation fans are so excited for he console. We might find out at Gamescom.

“We need to have something to show at Gamescom, don’t we?” SCE Europe CEO Jim Ryan told GameReactor (via Gematsu) when asked about the relatively low number of titles displayed.

“There’s a lot coming,” Ryan teased.

“I’m sure you heard from [SCE Worldwide Studios boss] Shu [Yoshida] that he has – just his studios – he has 30 games in development. 20 of them are going to ship within the first year of the console’s life, and of those, 12 are new IP.

“So there’s a lot going on, it’s just that we need to keep stuff back. We’ve got Gamescom for us Europeans – we need to have something to show at Gamescom, don’t we?”

I’ve always preferred Gamescom to E3. While it doesn’t quite have the big announcements, it’s always been more about the games – and all those pretty things we got see at E3, we actually get to play. Oh, and then there’s all that Kolsch, too.

Gamescom takes place in Cologne, Germany towards the end of August this year and you should expect to see a lot of new PS4 games. Something tells me you should expect to see a great number of Xbox One exclusives to be shown too. Microsoft would be silly to throw away the momentum they’ve picked up since binning their silly DRM.

A mistake involving a broken condom and a time travel machine?

I am my own Grandfather, style of thing.

More seriously, if the schedule is set up properly, is the server time and your time the same thing, i.e. timezone, that sort of thing? Some web server that we use are “friendly” and remove the GMT two hour offset, so we get documents that are two hours out of “real” time.

Are there any sequels you’re hoping they’ll announce?

      Maybe Uncharted Team Racing?

lol nothing in particular, I’d just like a nice JRPG for PC some time. The last one I played was The Last Remnant, which was a fun change from the usual.

Bigwigs in Japan don’t like publishing for PC. There’s this perception that no one will buy for PC, but PC’s are becoming more and more popular in Japan, so it will happen this gen. It’s so easy to port across, because the architectures are so similar this gen, both Kojima-san, and Nomura-san have said they are considering PC ports for MGSV and FFXIV/KH3 respectively. Konami and Square-Enix are moving forward, I’m sure Capcom will follow if sales are good.

Gavin, to answer your question: We Playstation fans (we sometimes prefer to go by the ever-so-cheesy term – Playstation Nation) know that Sony have the most 1st-party studios, with pedigrees. I was expecting a lot more reveals at E3, to be honest, and I was underwhelmed.

Naughty Dog Team B and Sony Santa Monica Studios’ reveals have me most excited.

I really hope it’s not another Godowar though. And I would be happier if ND released a new IP over Uncharted 4. They seem to prefer releasing in 3s.

8 of the titles will be established franchises. 12 of them will be new IP. Whether there’s a new GoW or not, there’ll be plenty in addition to it.

Only exclusive I’m a bit sad about not getting Titanfall, but I won’t trade that for Infamous or whatever Naughty dog is busy with…

1 Studio alone working on 30 games??? Is this an Indie studio? Even then, 30 games is stretching resources a bit don’t you think?
