I’d be willing to bet that many of you know World War II history well, not because of what you learnt in school, but thanks to the games you’ve played. Franchises like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty brought many battles from that war to life, showcasing, to a certain extent, just how brutal it was. World War I though, for the most part, has been forgotten, especially from a gaming perspective. Other than the recent Valiant Hearts, I honestly can’t think of a title that uses The Great War as a backdrop. It’s for this reason I have an eye on Verdun. It’s a FPS that fleshes out a slice of history from that terrible war.
It has just left Early Access and is now officially available. Purchasing Verdun before the 5th of May will net you a 10% discount, bringing the price down to $20.69. That’s not bad for a brand new game.
Interested in seeing what it’s all about? Here’s the official blurb and trailer from the Steam Page (via PC Gamer)
Verdun is the first multiplayer FPS set in a realistic First World War setting. The merciless trench warfare offers a unique battlefield experience, immersing you and your squad into intense battles of attack and defense.
The game takes place on the western front between 1914 and 1918, in one of the bloodiest conflicts in world history. The developers were inspired by the infamous Battle of Verdun France in 1916. The game includes many historically accurate features such as realistic WW1 weaponry, authentic uniforms and maps based on the real battlefields of France and Belgium.
There was a time a few years back where gamers grew tired of the World War II setting. I personally think we’re at a point where modern shooters are getting stale. Perhaps it’s time to go back in history once more.
What do you think? Does a title like Verdun interest you in the slightest? Or are you happy to keep playing current/futuristic titles?

B rate games that rely on “early access” are quite literally asking for public alpha testing.
this trend is way too popular lately.

Maybe you’ll remember this. There was a WW2 game, top down isometric view, with I think 3 main characters, one of them being a skinny frenchie that you could send to climb telegraph poles to get behind enemy lines. I’m talking maybe 15 yrs ago ( giving away age here ), was on 3 discs I think. That was epic! Just cannot remember what it was called.

I use to be such a fan of this site, but lately it just seems like a generic gaming site… Articles have lost their Charm… Even the comments has become stale, same old, same old. Seen one? seen them all… Only Darryn seems to spice things up still a bit… But the rest of the articles just felt just like writers trying to do their job and meet a target… Not attacking anyone, just giving my opinion

Nah Gavin, nothing specific… I just like when the guys developed more or less their own writing style… Adding their own little humor etc… The challenge post for instance(TeamD), that was a real fun one! Made me feel part of it even though the I don’t know any of them… I know it is hard, but when the guys do those type of articles I think it adds to the uniqueness of the site that attracted most of us. Like when I read an article, I want to know whom has written it without having to go check the author. Just that personal touch to the articles…Even if it means more Zoey photobombshops

It looks a bit…dull. Valiant Hearts actually tried to portray the feel of WW1.
From what I see, it could have easily been a bad WW2 shooter. Nothing on the quality of MOH or COD 1 &2.
