Fable III Gets released in the US today, and that means that the review embargo has been lifted. With that comes the inundation of reviews. Let’s take a look and see if the new monarchical aspects of the game live up to the promises of its creators, and if the risky experiments have been for the better.

how does one of Microsoft’s last real exclusives for the Xbox 360 fare? There appear to wildly varying opinions; TheSixthAxis has awarded it a 10 out of 10, while professional troll, Destructoid’s Jim Sterling has seen fit to give it 5 and a half.

List of reviews after the jump!

I’ve always found the series to be quite charming, and a joy to play – despite the perpetually broken promises – and I’m still exceptionally excited to rule Albion with my fists of iron.

Fable III will be available on Friday 29 October for the Xbox 360, and on PC at a later, as yet unannounced date.

Hmmm besides the guy from destructoid everyone seems to be in consensus, I always though of Dtroid as more like gamers than professionals so their opinions are ofetn very subjective.

I think I’ll wait to see what the consensus is like on this game from my fellow gamers. Fable 2 was just too much of a hit and miss for me (to even consider buying Fable 3 on the first day).

Having said that, the reviews look promising, but then Fable 2 was also universally lauded by initial reviews, and then the barrage of criticism flooded the internet.

Kotaku’s review is in, and they’re very critical of it.

    “The Bottom Line
Shave off Fable III’s disappointing end and you’d have a better game, albeit it one quite similar to the laudatory Fable II. But the world is boring without experimentation. Fable III is better off with its shaky, risky king phase. The fifth act of this play is still a rough draft. But it’s been built on an impressive set that we can play in for a long time. Those interested in ambitious stumbles should commit to Fable III. Those wanting something more polished can settle for the previous model.”

I think I’m going to pass on Fable 3. Their review has been incredibly helpful since I get where they’re coming from. Fable 2’s ending just felt so pointless, and if it’s more of the same from Fable 3 than why bother. I was looking forward to building up an army, but given the disappointment of the previous two games, I reckon I’ll be better off replaying Dragon Age.

I dont like this new direction Western RPG’s are taking. It seems like they are taking all the RPG aspects of the game out. You might aswell call Fable 3 a poor mans action adventure because it seems to lack any sort of depth.

Damn and i was hoping this would be good in light of the problems im having with Fallout NV. Lets hope Dragon Age hasnt been stripped down completely also.

Heed my words of wisdom: Casualization of games will be the death of gaming, so say we all.

lately all the Microsoft games have had a obscene amount of hand holding… it is killing the games for me!

New splinter cell …. case in point. So easy and do this now, grab the shiny ledge etc etc… cool game but who are the target demographic? 5 year olds. Or wait. ADHD Yanks!

Point is games are supposed to be fun and less complicated, that’s what the founder (Shingeru Miyamoto) of modern gaming believes and all his games adhere to this Principal.I don’t see the point in making complex leveling up ans inventory systems that serve as a barrier to many poeple enjoying the game… I liked Conviction better than Double Agent or the first three SC’s, Fable 2 not so much though…But eventually I will get it but not a first day purchase.

I guess that’s why Demon Souls is such a refreshing breath of fresh air. 😀 Demon Souls… challenging and rewarding. What gaming should be.

The problem is you couldnt die in Fable 2. You just respawned and lost a few experience points. You could just hack and slash at a boss, respawn and repeat till the health bar dried up. Bioshock had the same problem.
