Fallout 4’s getting official modding tools in April

Preston

“General, I have word of another settlement could use our help.”

“Preston, please die in a fire. I hate you, and everything about you.”

That was pretty much how my play-through of Fallout 4 went. Thankfully, on Pc, some industrious modders have made it so that Preston Garvey shuts the hell up for the most part, making the game infinitely more enjoyable to play. The game is still lacking official mod support though – but according to Bethesda, it’s coming soon.

Speaking to GameInformer, Bethesda’s Todd Howard said official Fallout 4 modding will become available shortly after the release of the game’s first DLC. He’s also suggested a generalised idea on when the promised modding tools will make their way to consoles.

“Our goal is between the first two DLCs,” Howard said. “It’ll go up at that time on PC. In April. All of that stuff will go up on PC. People are beta testing it. There’ll be a lag on consoles. We want to get it up on PC and have it work. It’ll probably be a good month before it hits Xbox One, and another month for PlayStation 4.”

I’m really keen to see what sorts of things modders will be able to get away with on the decidedly more closed systems – and we should get a taste of that around May on Xbox One, and June on PlayStation 4.

The first DLC is called Automatron, and has a simple questline that involves harvesting bits off of robots to build your own mega robot. Or something. It’ll cost $9.99 or be available as part of the game’s all-encompassing (and soon to be pricy) Season Pass.

I just put Preston in a power armour suit, so I wouldn’t have to look at his typically Bethesda emotionless face.

I think they have waited too long on this, adding official modding.

Perhaps they will get the punters who finished the game back next year, if enough cool mods exist. That said, should they have delayed the launch till modding support?
