I hate Destiny. I hate almost everything about it. The stupid levelling system (now much better thanks to The Taken King), the stupid story (now a little bit better thanks to The Taken King), the stupid Cryptarch and his stupid engrams and the stupid voice acting accompanying the stupid Ghost (now just as bad, but different thanks to the Taken King).
What I can’t hate about Destiny is its shooting, which is just about the best I’ve experienced in a game this generation. Destiny’s gunplay is not just mechanically sound, it’s superlative. And it’s one of the things that’s influencing Fallout 4’s shooting, presumably when done outside of V.A.T.S.
Fallout’s shooting however, hasn’t been great. Bethesda’s already sought help from iD to better its shooting – and they’ve also looked at Destiny. Former Bungie employee Josh Hamrick now works at Bethesda as a senior systems designer. He not only tuned the game’s Vita remote play controls, but also the game’s weapon systems.
“The main difference in the way we develop [and other studios] is that we will develop with as many knobs as possible,” Bethesda’s Todd Howard told Game Informer (via Gamespot).
“We’re always thinking of scale. We’re not a team that is just going to make eight guns and spend forever on one gun. We knew we were going to have thousands, so we needed to develop a gun system that had all of the dials.”
I’m okay with that – even though I’ll probably be playing the game in third person.
Fallout 4 is out next week. I can already feel some sort of malady coming on.

Was not even considering this game but if it can sort out guns the way Destiny did then I might just pick this up some time… What? What do you mean it is a big and wonderful open world game? Oh well then I am back to not considering it at all. When is the next big linear, story driven game coming?

You should look at fallout it is a story driven game, just give you the chance to go out and experience the story, pick up hints about the people that used to live in a place, etc, etc instead of a linear story.

So essentially this game will have all the cool bells and whistles from the skill tree all the way to the gunplay and then some… I’m getting quite excited about hurtling bb pellets at radroaches in V.A.T.S….

As a person who never touched Destiny till The Taken King came out I can’t understand your frustration. The last time I even enjoyed any kind of FPS was back with Unreal and Unreal 2 (mp Unreal Tournament). Destiny has me intersted 🙂
