Far Cry 4 PC patch fixes crippling issues

I play most of my games on PC, which means that day one purchases are usually terrible ideas. Having a game work perfectly on PC from the start is kind of like finding a medium-sized unicorn in a field of haystacks bigger than a small island; it’s practically impossible. That’s were hasty patches come into play, and now Far Cry 4 is having some major issues fixed.

A particularly nasty bug has been plaguing PC since launch, with the game throwing out black screens or transforming the game into a less attractive greyscale vintage film. Output missions also had a habit of changing everything to a dull grey, but Ubisoft seem to have fixed everything with the latest patch.

Check out the rather short patch notes below:

Patch Notes:

  • Fixed the “black screen” issue PC players were experiencing when certain USB peripherals were plugged in.
  • Fixed the “grey screen” issue some PC players were may have encountered after the Outpost Master Mission.

That’s pretty much everything being fixed now, but Ubisoft also stated that they’re looking into the unsurprising amount of SLI and Crossfire issues, as well as feedback on key bindings and mouse acceleration tweaking. At the very least the game sounds far more stable than Far Cry 3 at launch, which was a mess for me personally.

How’s your experience with the game been though? Have Far Cry 4’s bugs been getting you more down than Pagan Min’s blond bangs?

Hell, it was hard enough for me to bite the bullet and part with a months petrol money for EA Bioware only to be treated to two crashes and unwatchable cut scenes in Fable Age Inquisition 25fps PS4 game.

I also, as a joke decided to read the entire T$Cs that you have to accept on the title screen. FUCK ME, not even my bank came with that THE LORD OF THE RINGS contents worth of T&Cs.

It kept saying that you if YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THESE TERMS, DO NOT INSTALL THE GAME, meanwhile the PS4 is automatically installing the fucking broken mess in the background lol.

Last EA game I am ever buying. Now to fall in love with Biowarres vision and not the poor execution.

when you say vision do you mean forcing faggotry into a game about demons because according to them, homosexual men cant enjoy a game unless a flambouyantly gay male stereotype is there to remind them its ok to be gay?

I spent about $200 on getting 2 gold editions or whatever it was for me and my gf. I loved Farcry 3. In spite of the annoying bugs, Farcry 4 has been great. I don’t have any regrets about my choice on this one. A few other games have been let downs this year, but this one has definitely sucked up more than $200 of our lives. It’s great :D. Just, fix the bugs. SMAA gets a weird ghosting effect, and they can’t seem to get the shadows to work right.

True true, but the majority globally will end up not saying anything about it and this will get worse. It wont be long until selling beta games would be the norm and when the game releases they would have made their money ten fold and even then the games will be priced at R700 – R900 a game.

Still these updates are truly unnecessary. These things could have been fixed before even launch yet they let is go through with these problems. People that have limited internet lines are suffering because of these patching. This 1,4 patch alone is over a gig in size, patch 1,3 the same being over a gig.

Was better with a controller, but I cant aim for shit with those analogue sticks. Luckily I only need to be in a 0.5m radius of the head in order to get a headshot…hehe.

For some reason this game runs like shit on my PC. It stutters. Although I got rid of most of the stuttering through xml tweaking, the framerate dips randomly for no reason. It`s like they crippled the game on purpose for users with AMD Graphics cards. The only way I can avoid the framerate issues and stuttering is by setting the graphics on low, everything, with a bloody 2GB 256-bit graphics card. No way in hell I`m doing that, not on a PC I spent 20 grand on last year. I seriously hope that Ubisoft and AMD fix these issues.

You know what’s weird? It’s clear the game is ported from console (Mouse acceleration, key-binding issues etc) and consoles run AMD cards. Yet switching it to AMD on PC breaks it?

I thought about the exact same thing. Makes absolutely no sense. The new consoles run on AMD CPU`s and GPU`s. It`s really as though they crippled it completely to give Nvidia a clear edge.

Thank you for that. Feel a little bit better about my PC now, lol. It seems like this is going to force a lot of us to upgrade to Nvidia graphics cards in the future though. I would not have minded Nvidia Gameworks if all it does is give Nvidia users some better graphics, but it crippling the game completely for AMD users is completely unwarranted and uncalled for. Also, they sure know how to screw up a game engine. The Dunia Engine that Far Cry 2 used was amazing, it looked amazing and played amazing. Since then they only screwed it up. Also, Far Cry 2 still has beautiful graphics, they could have used that exact engine, unaltered for Far Cry 3 and 4 and I still would have been happy. I recently replayed Far Cry 2 on full graphics with 8x Anti-Aliasing and it`s still a truly beautiful game.

Yes I know about the Physx, trust me, that`s definitely not the issue with Far Cry 4. It`s the Nvidia Gameworks crippling the game for AMD users. Also, watch the video below posted by RustedFaith, you`ll see what we mean. The game even stutters on a rig with two GTX 980`s. There are still a lot of issues with the game engine.

No good on nvidia either. SLI compatibility has gone down the drain. you need to deliberately tone down to less detail to play on single gpu with half the frame rate. Trust me some of the workaround fixes like even changing SLI bits won’t make it any good either.

Dunno how the PC version of this got through reviews without mention of serious bugs post day 1 patch.

    1. Co-op crashes 9 times out of 10 if you both die at the same time. Can’t rejoin without restarting game. Not so serious, but irritating.

    2. Huge issues with AMD graphics card perfomance. It’s all over their forums, and patches have not addressed this. Unbelievably serious this one, and no communication from Ubi on it. I believe one guy on the forums when he suggested they must have forgot to test on AMD rigs. Have to play with everything on low, and I was running FC3 at Verg High with half the things turned up to Ultra. I was expecting to run it at least on High, but no such luck – not even a Medium.

Quite a few other obvious issues that didnt affect me, but lit up the forums. Maybe XBONE and PS4 were well sorted, but the reviews saying this was a relatively bug free launch are so wrong. Which is a pity, cause the game is really good. it doesnt deserve the FC 3.5 nickname because they really have refined the whole experience and it’s a fantastic game to lose time in.

i was running everything maxxed last generation on my old PC.upgraded for the new gen stuff, my new PC runs everything from the previous gen at 80-120fps, which you’d think was a good sign moving into the new gen, but no, the new gen still has alot of quirks to work out in terms of optimisation.

at the end of the previous gen, you could build a truly budget PC and have no issues, but with the new gen, even with high tier new gen hardware, you’re still going to have issues.

oh no, i wasnt saying you had a budget PC, i have no idea what youre running.

i was just saying that the tech available at the end of last gen with regards to the price:performance ratio, compared to the price:performance ratio for the new gen stuff is just ridiculous.

the new gen developers need to optimise better so that you dont need to have a R15k PC to get decent performance.

the issues regarding AMD are a tad worrying though, im running an R9 270x, so yeah, they need to get their shit together.

I was so keen to play this game, but the issues have totally put me off it. Stutters like crazy on my HD7950OC 3GB, I7 3770K OC and 16GB RAM. Frame rate is OK even on Ultra (averages 50fps), but it stutters regardless of graphics settings. Low means more FPS, but the stutter is still there. Seriously pissed that AMD users are being marginalized, seemingly intentionally as they’ve done nothing to even acknowledge what so many of us are experiencing. Some Nvidia users also have the stutter, but seemingly a smaller percentage. Indicates poor PC optimization. The mouse acceleration makes finer aim a lottery – especially coming from CS:Go, TF2 and Quake Live with 1:1 mouse movement. The main reason I wanted the game was for co-op with a friend. Her much slower Nvidia machine runs it fine on Ultra with no stutter. Go figure. The co-op is broken. I drive a car, on her screen I’m floating in the air. She runs over a pedestrian in my game, but there’s nothing there in hers. Random crashes. Server disconnects. Glitches. Really annoying that the game is so broken. Single player is fine if you can get past the stutter – but I’m not sure why I should have to?

A lot of SLI issues. Most of them seemed to be fixed, but now it’s going dark when I look down. I’ll have to play with the shadow settings. It’s been fine when we turn off SLI (I have SLI 970s, my gf has SLI 670s), but it’s a little too choppy with just 1 670.

I just bought the game yesterday and can barely make it past the opening cinematic. Completely unplayable…events aren’t triggering, doors won’t open..nothing. Reinstalled it and made it even less playable. Hoping for another new patch soon..

This is just annoying. My uPlay collection is massive on both PC and on XBOX ONE. However, on Xbone I have no issues getting the sound out correctly for any games, not even for UBISOFT’s game. On my massive very expensive gamer rig, I cannot get DTS 5.1 to work. I have to go to audio options and select 2 channel DVD quality in order for the game to even have sound. What is up with this shit? – Also the sound in Unity is horrible on PC, but very good on Xbone. – I have a Pioneer MCS-434 connected to my PC and a HK 5.1 to the Xbone. Why isn’t it working correctly on the PC?
