Fez sells over 1 million units

Is there anyone who likes indie games and hasn’t tried out Fez? Well, apparently, there aren’t many who haven’t given the puzzle platformer a whirl as they cross a major sales milestone.

It’s always a big achievement when a game crosses the one million mark, especially when that game is from independent developers. Polytron put up a special thank you message on their site:

FEZ has now sold over a million unit across all platforms.

That’s right, a cool mil!

And we couldn’t have done it without you!

Thank you for buying the game!

Thank you for stealing it!

Thank you for telling your friends about it!

Thank you for buying it again when it came out on PC!

Thank you for boycotting it so well!

Thank you for putting up with the bullshit!

Thank you for all your love letters, fan art, cosplays and freakin’ tattoos you got, you crazy bastards!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I wonder if this means that Phil Fish will go back on his explosion and actually make Fez 2, or if he has well and truly left the indie gaming scene. He didn’t say anything on his twitter account to acknowledge the 1 million sales; perhaps he has truly been scared off by the underbelly of the internet.

Still, it’s always nice to see an indie developer reach such great sales figures – just goes to show that we really are in the middle of an indie renaissance. Congrats to the guys at Polytron and let’s hope that we see more cool games (if not Fez 2) from them soon!

Shame, the net broke him. Watched the documentary the other day. Wow, he went through hell to get the game launched.

Yeah… It really is sad. How people can just spew hate at him over the net like that. To think he was making Fez 2 till he just couldn’t take it anymore.

As if his business partner in the first game wasn’t bad enough 🙁

Also true, but can you imagine what Phil needed to have done to deserve that kind of attitude from his partner? When it comes down to it he made an exceptionally awesome game.

I really do hope he starts another project at some point.

Too much to type still lol you can find lots on google. A small example was when he told a Japanese dev to his FACE at a panel “Your games just suck”, poor guy didn’t understand english so well, and there was a whole bunch of people laughing at the dev. He then went on to say in response to to his comment “My delivery could have been more tactful, but I do think most modern Japanese games are god-damn awful.” and that is when he received a ton of backlash. I don’t have much respect for the asshole even if fez was great

Wow. What an arsehole. Have you seen Indie: The Movie? He is suicidal the whole way through.

Nope, need to watch it. Really? jeez..I don’t know exactly what his problem was. I just didn’t feel that burning passion from him. It felt more like he was trying to stick it to the industry instead of the love of video games
