Every year, because publishers still stick to the same old tried-and-trusted release schedules, the games that tend to be released in the next few months are few and far between. While there are indeed some great games coming out in the next quarter, the great big blockbuster games that drive that bit of the industry go in to hiding, ready to be drown us in a torrent of games in the fourth quarter.
Looking at our own release schedules, there’s nothing really big coming until the end of August and the beginning of September – but that doesn’t mean there won’t be great games to keep you playing until then.
I for one am rather excited about the return of King’s Quest, which is being released episodically, starting at the end of this month. Everybody’s gone to the Rapture, Journey and Mike Bithell’s stealth-em-up Volume are likely to occupy much of my time next month. There’s Devil’s Third coming for Wii U owners, but that’s pretty hard to recommend.
I may, like many of you I suspect, spend even more time dicking about in Skellige, finishing up a number of Witcher contracts.
What will you be playing? Is there anything you’re looking forward to in the August “drought?” Is there even really a drought? Perhaps you’ll attempt to tackle your backlog, maybe there’s an old game you’ve just had a desire to play through. Tell us, and tell us why.

Lost Dimensions, Volume, Until Dawn. Pretty good month.

I very rarely get games on release day or even release month for that matter, so the drought doesnt mean anything to me personally. If i run out of SP games i always have Team fortress 2 and Guild Wars 2 to fill up my time in between.
Im only really waiting for Sword Coast Legends

Ah… The “convenient” science of Star Trek. But yeah. Apparently, if rumour and gossip is to be believed, in Doom you got a pack mule carrying all your weapons. You never see him, because every time you turn around, he jumps behind you.

I’ll just stick to Terraria, Torchlight 2, Red Faction: Armageddon, Don Bradman 14, and I’ll try finish Metro 2033 at some stage. I can’t play the new games, and I can’t afford to upgrade either, so I’ll stick to what I’ve got no matter what’s released.

Also, just remembered I have Metro Last Light…never installed. Yikes
VampyreSquirrel
July 17, 2015 at 11:31
I’m enjoying RF:A, it’s pretty cool and I think I’m nearing finishing it, but Terraria keeps distracting me.
I’m 3 hours into Metro 2033, and well, haven’t finished it… feel like it’s a requirement for me to do so. I however don’t have Last Light, but can play it off my family member’s (read: friend’s) library 😛

Dude play 2033!! It’s freaking awesome. And if you are brave enough, play it on ranger hardcore mode. It really really makes the game better, not more difficult. Because you feel the fear of running out with limited oxygen and almost no bullets!

Think I’ll buy DMC4 in August. Still need to finish Borderlands, Witcher 3 and FF type-o. Also I bought Bloodborne again. Then there’s Planetside 2,GTA,FF10 HD,Limbo,Sleeping Dogs and Helldivers still installed on the PS4. Plus all the PS+ games I never got round to. I think I’m good.

With the high cost of games coupled with living costs I’ve long ago started limiting myself to only buying new/recent release of games I really want and get proper play time from. This is down to one game every 3 months, rest of the time it is games bought on special . So drought …. meh.

Matthew Holliday
July 17, 2015 at 12:19
not elitist, impatient.
game prices generally increase after the pre-order are initially made available for purchase.
if i know im going to end up buying a game befor it comes up on steam specials etc a year after release, i might as well atleast buy the game when its cheapest.

I have 6 more playthoughs of Dragon Age: Inquisition.
My copy of Alien Isolation is also a bit dusty as I have yet to summon the willpower to play it.
And now I have Rocket League for the mindless fun portion of gaming time.
