FFD: How easily do you let go of the past?

Let-it-go

We’re in a new current-gen. This is the time of the year that I’m officially declaring new-gen and next-gen to be obsolete words, after the adoption of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. We’re in a generation of gaming that is promising more power, more social interactions and less shiny horse armour DLC. But to get there, some of us had to let go of the past. How easy was it for you?

Take for instance, my old generation of consoles, the PS3 and Xbox 360. I have the luxury of already owning an Xbox One and PlayStation 4. My technolust has set in completely. I’m not replaying older games, and therefore, I don’t need those consoles. So I’ve sold them, the games and all that. Hell, I did it without thinking twice in a Gumtree ad that was besieged with offers of Samsung Galaxy phones. I am pretty much ready for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 generation then and have no old-gen attachments. I’m essentially a buddhist gamer.

And for me, it was easy. For others though, letting go of the past console generation may be a difficult decision to make. You’ve got hours invested in your console, years of grime caked into your controller and games that you just can’t bear to be without. Letting go is not an option, no matter how shiny the alternative is.

Of course, to reach our new current generation, you most likely have no choice but to sell your older hardware in order to avoid some of that dreaded FOMO. So, how easy or difficult was (or is) it for you to let go?

The end of Jedi Academy really kicks ass, fighting off 3/4 sith at a time with double ended lightsaber 😀 I also heard that there are mods for the game in which you can re-enact scenes from the movies, and even play as yoda

i actually kept my PS3 after getting the PS4 because of the value (and the massive backlog) I got from PSN+ with the intention of still playing those games.

But… it’s now up for sale because I realized that i’ll just never get to them. So sure, it took awhile for me to let go, but lack of time/money made me want to ditch it.

Sticking with my PC and the PS3 for now. So many cross-platform-generation-whatnots at the moment that I can’t realistically bring myself to fork out a poopload of money for a new console yet. PS3 is still good. Currently playing Alien Isolation on the PS3 and it’s beautiful and crisp enough for me to soil myself in realtime. I honestly play more PS3 than PC at the moment, but that’s because I’ve got an awesome setup in my living room. That backlog in my steam account though…yikes, luckily I’ve got a nice two month long holiday coming up.

My Xbox 360 was packed away a few months ago, (shortly after a Left for Dead 2 LAN), and my PS3 reclaimed its place beside the PS4.

Fast Forward a few weeks, and my Xbox One now occupies the space (and HDMI port) previously ‘leased’ to the PS3 (which is now in the PS4’s box), and the 360 is in a BUZZ! PS2 bag somewhere underneath my bed O_O

I have no intention of selling the PS3 and 360, because I hold on to the belief that I will get around to finishing up on the last few (LOL…few) PS3 and 360 games which I have not yet completed.
