FFD20122013

If you’ve been following, we’ve been posting lists of what we’ve established to be the top 100 games of this generation. They’re the games we found to be entertaining, insightful, enlightening or just plain different.

It was put together using the magic of spreadsheets and maths and votes from staff, including those from people with absolutely no taste in games. Yes, Victor, I’m looking at you. so yes, there are some significant stupids that have crept in – some position might be a bit silly, and Dragon Age 2 has no place being on any best list of anything.

If you haven’t already, check it out, Lazygamer Top 100 games of this generation.

Let it all out. Tell us how stupid you think our best games of the generation are. Just wait until you see the top 10.

And perhaps worse, our games of the year.

Shut up Geoff, DA2 was good!

I’m really enjoying the list, it’s reminding me of all the great games I’ve played & the ones I’m still looking forward to playing. I’m not paying attention to the rankings, they’re pretty arbitrary – I just see it as a list of this generations most beloved games.

I loved Anders, the cry baby little bitch. The gay elf with Mage issues. The annoying brother who bitches about mages all the time. I found Isabela a lot more interesting because SHE GOT BOOBIES …

The Prince was really cool … who else was there… nah they were not that important anyway ….

          I cannot wait for DA3.

I agree with the games on the list actually, I just feel like it had been shaken up and some games ended up on the wrong spots.
The list did actually draw my attention to some games I didn’t even know existed, some of which are now on my Steam wishlist.

Hehe just kidding. But what I wana know. How serious is this list though, for DA2 to beat some other games, it’s absolutely Ludacris (in every area code) ….

DmC beat DMC 4 ? …. Combi Christ’s soundtrack alone qualifies that game to be thrown in the bin….I can get behind some of it…

But how is fancy pants adventure better than Prey? Makes me wana pop cap in this shindig!…Binary Domain beat Far Cry 3….The Universe is falling apart…..

SO HELP ME ODIN , If I see Candy Crush on this list I will destroy everything….

I can see that the math goes something like this.

    everyone votes

Whatever Zoe says gets multiplied by 0.1 cuz she’s a girl

Whatever Gavin says gets multiplied by 10 cuz he’s the boss (TONY DANZA)

Add whatever Geoff and Darryn says

Activate the improbability drive and wait to recover.

And Voila we have the lazy gamer top 100 games of this generation.

Yup Yup. I can’t justify all the sequels really, but when MW was released it really changed the MP shooter scene and the SP was really memorable too

COD4 was a good game, and it definitely deserves it’s spot on the top 100. As for everything that comes after…. let’s just say, you wouldn’t want to sully your toilet bowl with them.

I’m actually enjoying seeing the top 100 list each day. It gives us some real insight in to some of the taste of games from the staff.

Can’t wait to see the top 10 although your closing comments have frightened me a little.

I suppose once you go full-retard, you might as well embrace it and go for broke. If Fable 3 and Aliens: Colonial Marines aren’t in the top 10 game of this generation list, then we riot.

But seriously though, I wish Dragon’s Dogma gets a nod. If there was ever a game that deserves a spot in any top 100 it’s that one. Same with Spec Ops: The Line, Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Ni No Kuni, MCOM: Enemy Unknown, Last of Us, Uncharted 1, 2, Tearaway and Terraria. Those are the games I would take into my bunker.

DA 2 above Arkham City was an issue for me. As was DA 2 being on the list at all. Also a bit suprised Arkham Asylum was so low on the list. Also, as much as I dislike the Halo franchise, I think it should have been a bit higher as they have been pretty influential (depending on who you ask).

I don’t think the Halo’s should have been lumped like that. Instead, they should each have had their run for the title.

The only other issue I have so far is why some games are lumped into franchises and others are not. I think that’s very unfair, especially when you might have a title that was above-average, and now it gets lumped together with its under-performing brethren. Take Gears of War for instance, Gears of War 1 was exceptional, but it’s sequels were not. Infamous is another example, the first game while OK, pales in comparison to the second. There are plenty other examples… and since this is TOP 100 GAMES of the generation rather than Top 100 FRANCHISES… I really think the ball has been dropped.

Also, why didn’t you get the community to vote for this? We could have made submissions from August already and then you would have got an idea of how the peanut gallery sees gaming.

I also noticed how some franchises were bunched together and others not. Seems like a waste of spots on the top 100, or just don’t include entire franchises as you say. Each game is its own.

Or if you do lump them, then be consistent right through, so every franchise game is lumped not just some. But then you bring up another issue, how do you then weigh a franchise against a single title? Do you mentally average them? So if UC1 and UC2 were great but UC3 was a little hit and miss, therefore the whole franchise scores below Dragon Age 2? Fuuuuucckkkk!!! FUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKKKK!!!!!!

And more importantly why wasn’t Dragon Age lumped as a franchise?

It’s a bit of a loophole, I’ll agree. Every game for itself. You can’t bundle up the Elder Scrolls series and neither can you the Fallout series. Or Warhammer series. Imagine that. Not that I expect any Warhammer game to fall on a list here.

Exactly, if Dragon Age 2, Dragon Age: Origin, Oblivion and Skyrim can run individually, why can’t Resistance 1, 2, 3 or Infamous, 1, 2 or Halo 3, ODST, Reach, 4, or Saints Row 1, 2, 3, 4?

there was actual method in our franchise madness. if the same story was carried through, it was lumped together. if the sequel was in the same universe but did not carry on with the original story, it was separate. also, if only one game from an entire franchise was worth mentioning, it stood alone 🙂

The only thing I would say is ‘stupid’ about them, is leaving out PC Games like Arma and Stalker. I don’t care if the site started as a console site. These are two IP that everyone should know about, and respect. Besides, if you’re not throwing PC Games in, it’s a top 100 console games list. Not all games.

Beyond, I applaud anyone who takes the time to try and actually put numbers to their top 100 games, regardless of whether I approve or disprove with any of them.

Does Dragon Age II have a place in the list of best games? No, definitely not.

Was it buggy and preposterously lazy, yes? Was it far too short in comparison to the previous title? Yes. Was the battle system a move down from thoughtful and strategic to juggling button cooldowns and watching whacky anime fighting? Well, yes. Rushed to market? Yep, that too.

But, it did have good points. Kirkwall itself would have been a good starting point for a bigger game. Moving forward through time rather than moving across distance was a creative way to design the game. Varric was a good unreliable narrator, the characters, while not for everybody’s tastes, were actually rather good. The choices did matter when the game wasn’t glitching, and it was great fun to make repeat playthroughs to see what else would happen at the end if you made subtle changes. Despite the copy-paste armor and weapons, it was at the core a good RPG with everything we love about RPGs. The add-ons were also sizeable and interesting.

So, despite an enjoyable underlying experience, maybe… 6/10. You just shouldn’t be allowed to get away with using the same exact dungeon a hundred times with different doors open and an odd piece of decoration here and there.
