2014 is set to be another great year for videogames – and if you take a look at our mammoth recommendation for the games to watch out for this year, there are quite a number of games that promise to be huge.
Inevitably though, one or two (or more!) of them are going to end up being a bit disappointing, a little less than expected, or just downright terrible. The question is, which ones? Obviously, many are now worried that Titanfall, with its by design 6v6 player counts just isn’t going to be as good as all those people who’ve played it keep saying it is. (We’ve played it. It’s really good!)
There’s every possibility that Ubisoft’s delayed Watch Dogs isn’t going to be nearly as exciting as we hope, and could in fact be a rather dull experience. We’ve liked what we’ve played of it so far, though one wonders if that’s going to make for a complete experience.
Destiny, from Halo guys bungie could end up being a disappointment, when people realise that’s really just Borderlands in Space (wait a minute..that sounds AWESOME!). Dragon Age Inquisition, though it looks magical, could end up being a little more like Dragon age II than we’d hoped. the new Super Smash Bros might not be half as good as Melee, or even Brawl and the new Thief reboot certainly has some design decisions that long-time fans aren’t fond of.
There’s every possibility that The Witcher 3 could end up a disappointment with its new open-world structure; games of that ilk tend to lose focus when they’re not quite as linear.

Not every MMO failed man. The sub model failed, but the mmo’s developed cult followings. Nobody has yet usurped the giant that is WoW, but that’s not to say that every mmo has failed.
GW2, for example. Star Wars Online, Tera, Neverwinter etc. all have cult followings. I’ve seen people still playing Star Trek online (that’s been going for years), so yeah.

Agreed. I love Skyrim, really. But every ES game released has been released in a buggy state. While that’s not a huge issue for a SP game, that many bugs in a MMORPG, especially one you will pay for, is going to cause LOTS of issues. Also, there are so many people that are going to buy this, so I hope Bethesda dont pull a Diablo 3 and under-commit on the servers…

definatley titanfall, its EA and every battlefield game has had online problems. battlefield bad company 2 had lag for the first 3 months, 3 MONTHS! its going to be riddled with bugs and then there going to focus on fixing the mp which means any sp bugs will never get fixed

I hear you, but they plan on taking on BattleField and Call of Duty.
The point I am trying to make is that the game is going to be good (most likely) but is going to fall seriously short of the hype as the one to defeat COD and BF because they aren’t the same thing. BF and COD are massive wargame MP’s with big maps and many players, whereas Destiny is going to be 6v6 max, making it more of an arena MP game. Not massive warfare. Therefore it won’t beat COD or BF or even take any of their players away as the players who play COD and BF are after the large MP battles. Not small arena battles.
I have no doubt that the game will be good though. Just the hype portion that isn’t going to live up to expectations

It will be about teamwork and how the story will play out working with your team mates, not a frag fest as Bf and COD is, completely different game. I think it will do great for being different.. If you wanna kill a bunch of people COD or BF or hell Halo is great at doing that and it works for those games, Destiny is different beast.

The Hype machine is killing gaming, to be honest. We are promised the world, by developers and to some extent, the media too. When we as players get the game, we are left with an empty feeling. GTA V was like that for me. Yes, it is a good game, But after the hype, I was expecting a near euphoric experience. Sad to say, it did not happen.

hahaha Do I really get under your skin? Dont let me get to you man. I am just voicing my view, thats all. To this day I wish Saints Row games were better but they just leave me feeling as they a cheap rushed game. I think if they added just a few things would never insult Saints row games again.
1. They can keep the crazy not a problem.

3. Add more life to city
4.make shooting more like Gta 5
5. loose the neon lights and super powers
6.Go back to SR1 and SR2 feel
7.Make it more serious
8.Make damage on cars as Gta games have.

No man Keep things in SR as they are, the customizing, the running around nude ect, purple dildos and crazy humor just add realism here and there. not in way of GtaV is I dont want that I want a game like SR but what kills it for me is the fact the SR games just dont have the polish of GTA I mean SR2 was alot of fun but the fact the driving was terrible started killing it for me, then the city just needed more life more things to do and make things look more real and better. I mean throwing people in SR is fun as hell but think how cool that would be with decent damage and a bit of realism in blood and stuff! I mean if you could throw people in Gta that would be awesome! There are many things Sr does right but the parts it does wrong for me anyway are so bad it kills the entire game.

Yes I played both, they’re very different from each other, I was really surprised when I played 2 by how it changed. 1 was more traditional isometric view whereas 2 went with 3rd person.
I’m looking forward to carrying over my save file (again) & seeing what impact various decisions had.

I have this uneasiness in my soul that tells me that every designer went for the “next / current gen” game and don’t fully understand the consoles yet. This made them spend less time on the “current / old gen” thus the games will be something between a rock and a hard place. Good but not great. I hope I’m wrong but I think a lot of the designers got caught up in the hype of next gen.

Why, well the hype for this game is at maximum and personally the genre has been very hit-or-miss of late. Don’t get me wrong, if they do this right it could be the bestest game eva, but they have been very careful to show us only a highly rehersed sequence which was ok but not earthshattering. So many things can go wrong…. I worry.

Do not worry. The public will be glad to BETA test it for Bethesda for full retail price over a 2 year period of patches to patch the prior patch before the next update that cereates more game breaking bugs.
FF 14 did it and it worked so why not use Squares work model 😛

Definitely Titanfall! I’m going to be very surprised if it’s not a TITANFAIL. There are two reasons why I think it’s going to tank hard.
1) EA is the publisher. After one of their most dismal years, EA is yet to find its feet again. I doubt they will, and I’m pretty sure (history be praised) they’re going to botch this game.
2) Hype train – I still don’t understand the hype for this game, but so be it. This is arguably one of the most overhyped trainwrecks ever. It’s almost a given now that it won’t live up to expectations. Who’s to blame? You! You dumb bastards! When will you ever learn that when something is overhyped, it’s bound to be a pile of old shoes…

Titanfall may be a disappointment, but I don’t think it will be for those reasons. It could be disappointing because it might be very one dimensional without a SP mode, and with what seems like a MP mode very little scope or variety. I can see it being a huge hit for 3 months, and then the bubble bursting when people get bored of it. Or I could just be plainly wrong.

Titanfalls hype reminds me of the Matrix trilogy.. every like OH ITS AWESOME.. yet in reality it was the 3 kakest movies today… Video Game hype like a big fart.. u hope it gonna be nice loud one to impress ur mates with and in the end u just shit ur pants.

Anyone who says a multiplayer game will suck because of 6v6 limit are morons who probably never even played the fucking legendary Quake 3, ET, CS and UT99, mp only games. Or who did and could not stand the heat and quit after being handed their asses to them and didn’t want to put any effort into improving. Those games which are still considering their age leaps and bounds better in terms of game mechanics, balance and design than any modern shooter.
Why not go play ‘skills needed’ games like planetside. 😉
And my vote also has to go to Wolfenstein. The gameplay preview looked like shit.

The biggest fail will be the Don Bradman Cricket. No doubt 5 year olds will find mashing the x button on their ps amazing. anyone else who’s ever played or watched cricket will votch in the crotch protector.
