When I was a younger lad, I loved the hell out of two of Capcom’s games; Final Fight and Street Fighter II. There’s a bit of interesting history about the fact that Final Fight started its life out as a sequel to the original, poorly received Street Fighter, but I digress. I always wanted a game that was a combination of the two; a co-op brawler in the final fight vein starring Ryu and Ken, that allowed you to Hadouken, Shoryuken and Tatsumakisenpuuwhatever the hell out of waves of bad dudes in a side-scrolling beat em up.
That never really happened. We did get a game from SNK that attempted it, in Top Hunter – but it didn’t quite work out all that well. We also got to hadouken things as Megaman if you collected all the hidden bits in Megaman X. Instead, it took Midway and it’s Shaolin Monks game to successfully blend the fighting game and beat-em-up. Mortal Kombat’s taken a few other interesting stabs at genres it has no right doing; like Kart Racing in MK Armageddon.
Other game’s that have made a genre jump include Halo – which went from FPS to RTS with Halo Wars. Dead or Alive has less successfully taken the series from boob-filled jiggly fighter to boob-filled voyeuristic jiggly perv-a-thon. Even Duke Nukem was a genre-jumper; he started his life as a 2D killer, before making the jump to a 3D FPS hero. Tomb Raider’s taken a turn for the isometric with Guardian of light and Lara Croft And The Temple Of Osiris.
My fantasies of a Street Fighter brawler are dead – but maybe there’s hope that some of yours might live on. What games would you love to see cross genres?

I always found it to be rather natural as far as progression goes. Was a tad annoyed I couldn’t power-level up like you could in Oblivion but still loved it.

How do you think it compares to Space Engineers? I know this is like comparing apples with oranges but Space Engineers sounds like a KSP-Minecraft-Star Citizen combo (which sounds awesome).

KSP is pretty much connect device a to device b with very little else. It is way more realistic though. Space engineers has a much larger creative force behind it (due to its minecraftiness.). Also when playing survival mode you actually have to work hard to survive. Don’t expect too much out of the space combat cause most people just hide and then try to hack all your equipment for themselves.
I did get into a battle the other day and it was fun but resource wise I really hurt my supplies of uranium and cobalt (damn you missles!).
tl;dr I enjoy space engineers slightly more than kerbal.

FTL with FPS boarding and actual space combat. So you would still control the jumping and ship customization in traditional FTL sense, but the space combat is controlled by you, and then the boarding after disabling an enemy ship is FPS/3rd person combat

Compare those stories with the Stories they did in KOTOR 2. Jade Empire and They’re DND licensed games, and tell me Dragon Age Isn’t Bland, and ME isn’t just another Scifi? I Want to love Bioware, I used to… but since they’ve been absorbed into EA, it’s like they’ve lost their creative spark….

There’s 2 teams, one working on The Witcher and the other on Cyberpunk. There are developers going back and forth between the 2 projekts. The Witcher 3 was delayed and they basically in crunch mode now.
So scaled down as in one team helping out the other team. But there has to be areas in the development of The Witcher 3 that’s done and they working hard on Cyperpunk 2077.
That’s much more info than a ex employee confirming Half Life 3.

We’ll have to see, Zelda always felt like the most “western” Of Nintendo’s IPs…. I guess it being influencesd by Ultima and Wizardry helped.

Well, they apparently built on the Shift 2 engine for the physics and simulation, which tells me enough.

and here I left all my hope on Project Cars being a racing sim but if you say Shift 2 then fuck that.
I’ll now have to look at Assetto Corsa cause micro-transactions, fuck that.

Well, technically Assetto Corsa is the next racing sim, because it’s in early access now. You can check the Steam reviews. Seems quite positive at the moment. I’ll wait until it’s finished though. I WISH RaceRoom wasn’t a F2P micro-transaction diseased game, because it’s really good.
