Final Fantasy 8 could be headed to Steam

Junction this rumour to something that I am really, really keen to see come true. Final Fantasy 8 is without a doubt my favourite game in the entire franchise. It had great gameplay, story and visuals and it still happens to be plenty playable years after release. And it might be getting an upgrade for a Steam release.

A while back, Final Fantasy 8 was briefly added to the Steam registry before being yanked off quicker than a high school kid and his first skin mag. NeoGAFfer Grief.exe picked up on another Steam entry this week, noticing that territorial purchasing options for Final Fantasy 8 had been updated.

And as noted, when a publisher starts to tinker with that kind of information, a release is imminent. Square-Enix has already released one Playstation One era Final Fantasy this year, the much loved (COUGH “OVERRRATEED” COUGH) Final Fantasy 7, so an updated PC version of 8 sounds plausible.

I’ve bought that game twice already. Would I buy it a third time? You bet your junctioned Guardian Force ass that I would.

  1. I watched a pop-fiction video of FFIX this morning. HOLY MOLY I WANT TO PLAY IT AGAIN SO BADLY! Nearly done with disc 3 on FFVIII (my first play through). I found it had a bit of a slow start, but once you figure out how to junction properly and stuff its pretty sweet!

VII will still be my fave though, it was my first FF experience 🙂

I just love how people STILL find stuff literally years and years after a game is released! Love watching me some Pop Fiction.

Yeah gonna wait for that to come out then play it again on my iPad. Only ones I haven’t played (once I’m done with VIII) is X, X-2, as well as the current gen meh (XIII + sequels). Pretty amped to get X + X-2 next year when they get the HD treatment 😀

Nice. I actually enjoyed 13 but 13-2 is so bad, story is so paper thin but gameplay is improved. And tell me about it. Just as hype. March cannot come sooner….don’t tell anyone ..I’m excited for Lightning Returns lol

I’ll forgive you, because the Omega and Ultima Weapons are right bastards. You need to have initiative, Ultima junctioned, aura activated and the Lionheart for Squall so he can hit his top Limit Break. And that’s just the first turn.

I swear I had that all in place. And then he just one shots me..once Phoenix automatically revived me, I think it was the mumbas side quest that grants you this random ability..I thought I was gonna win and boom…never happened .. I envy you. But a Steam release would mean redemption!!

I enjoyed VIII, but VII will always be my favourite. Sure the graphics of VIII blows VII out of the water, but the story of VII was better. Plus the whole mystery of how Cloud survived his first encounter with Sephiroth and the twist that was revealed on what actually happened was excellent. One of the best mystery revealers ever.

Yeah it was awesome, I think Crisis Core nicely adds to the mix too.

VIII’s intro will always be the the best intro to a game, ever. Its a toss up between VIII and Icewind Dale.

I wonder how the GFX will be? if there will be any attempt to improve it? i did try FF8 2-3 years ago with some GFX tweaks but still the graphics where just bad. Once you used to the quality of today’s games you sort of expect someones head to be more than 10 pixels.
