Final Fantasy VII Sells 100,000 Copies on PSN

According to Sony, the downloadable PSN version of the much beloved Final Fantasy VII has been downloaded over 100,000 times since it’s release in early June.
The 12 year old classic was one of the first Japanese RPG’s to garner mainstream western attention and still regularly features in many “Top Games” lists.

While 100,000 copies is quite an achievement for such an old game, considering its legacy and fanbase I can’t help but feel a little underwhelmed; Particularly when you factor in the 25 million users Sony’s online service has.

The game – playable on both the PS3 and The PSP – is just the one of an apparent barrage of new titles to be hitting the PSN soon. Titles on the horizon include Wild Arms 2, Mobile Light Force and Special Ops: Stealth Patrol.

I dont wanna sound like a douche but , it seems like the PSN users are cheap skates. They always brag about free online and, they surpassed Xbox live in numbers but no one actaully buys anything there…. Just goes to show how many users of the PS3 has atleast 3 different accounts

I have 4 accounts: RSA, UK, USA, JP.

I would say on there are about 10million unique PSN users. Which is still great.

You’re just sour because you’re stuck with xbox live.

Instead of moaning, get a PS3 already.

PS – Many like myself still own the original on PS1.
But having another 100,000 copies sold of a game 12 years after the release date, just goes to show how great the game and it’s support is.
(It’s almost more than the new Bionic Commando LOL)
I also own it on the PC, so sue me for not jumping in and buying it immediatly.

Saying that you expected more from a 12 year old game(which already went platinum) is just utter xbox fanboyism.

Correction: It did sell more than Bionic Commando in it’s first MONTH (4 weeks vs 2 weeks) in the US.

How on earth do you draw the conclusion that it’s xbox fanboyism?

Final Fantasy 7 VII is one of my favourite games of all time, and I expected it to do better, considering its fanbase. Being able to play the game on the go (via the PSP) or on a PS3 is great, and I expected it to *fly*.

If there’s any sort of fanboyism showing, it’s yours.

If it makes you feel any better, I’m one of those 100,000.

This site has been known to be favouring the xbox360 in the past.

If that wasn’t the case here I’ll apologise, but saying you expected more from something that sold that well is a bit unfair. There’s only so many times one can buy the same game.
