Final Fantasy XIII coming to the Xbox in Japan

The big news earlier this year was that Final Fantasy XIII was coming to the Xbox 360, however the odd news that followed it was that the 360 version wouldn’t be making an appearance in its homeland of Japan…

This struck me as a bit odd as if you are going to go multi-platform why would you give one platform exclusivity in a country? It may have been because they didn’t feel that Final Fantasy would sell in Japan?

Well with the latest hardware sales coming out of Japan showing us that the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 it seems that Square Enix may have changed their mind, well nearly…

The latest rumours are that either Microsoft is going to announce that the Asian version will work fine in Japan or the more likely rumour is that they will announce a full Japanese version will be released. It is also rumoured that they personally stimmied up the money for the Japanese version which is believable after they did so well with their recent RPG’s in Japan.

Personally I am not a Final Fantasy fan but it would be naive to under estimate the following this series has.

Square would be particularly stupid if they didn’t release an Xbox version in Japan.
Fan or not a fan, no one can deny that at the launch of each FinalFantasy, every Japanese goes crazy and it has become a national event (even appearing in the news).
It’s obvious that they’re going to change their strategies so that not a single Japanese misses the game
