Final Fantasy XIII Sales – PS3 vs Xbox 360

We’ve seen the video comparisons, and scrutinised screen shots detailing the differences between the two versions of the latest Final Fantasy from Square-Enix.
While the PS3 – for multiple reasons – ended up being the quote obviously superior versions, sometimes the sales figures don’t agree.

Now that the game’s been out for a while, let’s compare the sales to see if the game-buying public had their silly hats on or not.

Final Fantasy XIII  has, to date, sold 1.3 million copies in the US. According to Sony Computer Entertainment, the PS3 version  "sold nearly double the Xbox version." Seems the game buying public isn’t really THAT stupid, then.

The Xbox versions shifted 494,300 units – a total of 1,482,900 discs – with the PS3 version selling 828,200 copies on an equal number of Blu-Rays. Certainly a victory for camp Sony, but not bad at all for Microsoft, who wrested the title’s exclusivity from Sony in a surprise announcement at 2008’s E3.

Final Fantasy XII on the PS2 only sold 896,000 copies in its first month – which makes the sales of XIII much more impressive.

I can’t believe Final Fantasy XVII only sold 896 0000 copies. It was a lot more enjoyable then the previous two Final Fantasy games, and actually felt like it should be in the league of the two epic ones Final Fantasy VII and IX (yeah I know the later is very underrated).

A 333900 difference (in game sales and not disc sales) is quite substantial. Especially considering that the Xbox has a substantially larger userbase than that of the PS3.

Fact is that it’s 494,300 Xbox gamers (less GS-whores) who would otherwise have missed out on a pretty good game. Everybody wins.

Xbox fanboys were either busy with Mass Effect 2 or saving up for Splinter Cell: Conviction 😎

Great game .. just to linear. Too bad the graphics were so compressed and washed out on the 360, just to makie it fit.. Sad really, if it looked just as good on the 360 compared to the PS3 i would’ve gotten it for 360 without a doubt

Worldwide the numbers are grossly in favour of the PS3. In this case the sales are more in the region of 3.5:1 . 3.59 Mill Worldwide for PS3 and 1.09 for XBOX.
