Final Fantasy XIV Getting Universally Panned

When Final Fantasy XIII was announced for the Xbox 360 at E3 2008, some die-hard Sony fans took it personally, but they got their revenge a year later when Final Fantasy XIV, an MMO, was to be a PS3 console exclusive, with a PC version released as well.

Final Fantasy XIII ended up being largely mediocre..and XIV looks to follow in it’s footsteps. Only it’s apparently much, much worse.

You’d have though that Square-Enix would have learned from their mistakes from final Fantasy XI – which was actually pretty good. Instead, they’ve regressed, and made one of the worst critically received MMO’s…ever.

Pc Gamer, reviewing the game, has had a few rather unkind words to say, attached to a score of 3/10. "The kindest thing that can be said about the Final Fantasy MMO is that it has a good intro movie," the magazine assesses.

They go on to point out the game’s inherent lag, poor framerate as well as a "nightmarish control scheme". The game finds partial absolution in its XP system, but even that is obscured behind "one of the most heinous interfaces ever devised". The magazine’s critical hit?  "Final Fantasy XIV is so deeply flawed that I can’t even see how future updates could redeem it."

Square-Enix has increased the free-to-pay trial of the game to two months from it’s initial one, citing “the current state of the game” as a reason.

I personally have no interest in XIV – MMO’s aren’t my bag, baby. I am, however, keen on Final Fantasy XIII Versus and , to a lesser extent, Agito. I really hope they fare better.

Im glad this happened. Maybe now Square can start trying to maek games they made so well years ago.

    – They should stop worrying about what the west would like. We liked FFVII just fine. Its not quite FF if it doesnt have that Japanese flavour square.

    – They should start by not making FFXIII Versus so linear, add side quests, towns and an open world and all will be forgiven. Also dont make weapons and upgrades so stream line. Add some depth!!!

The last couple of Final Fantasies were rubbish.

They should just do what everyone is asking for and do an HD update to FF VII. Thats all everyone ever wanted

I’m pretty much a die hard ff fan since 7 and went back and played them all even the xi til this day. I tried out xiv and played for a week and decided I wanted my money back even though I knew that wasn’t gonna happen. That had to been the worst piece of **** ever and I will not reactivate it ever again. SE, WTF are you all doing making this bull. Stop sucking the western peeps dick and yes I’m from the west but god make something like back in the day.

Hopefully ffxiii versus stays exclusive to ps3. I hope tetsuya nomura keeps his word of it staying to ps3. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice that SE wants 360 players to experience FF, but IMO, some games are just better when they are developed for a specific system.

You claim FFXI was fine, the same developers made 11 and 11 at release was the worst launched game ever, it only got better in 6 months.

Since 14 is actually playable and has people in late rank 40s and some who enjoy it ( not the case in 11 the month of JP launch) , I am very sure , that months from now, this game is gonna rock, even more so than 11

It’s a shame that the last real and good Final Fantasy was FF X. Amazing mini game (blitzball) Beatiful towns, great characters (not a great voice for Tidus), excelent story, perfect leveling system, Awsome music and ending, etc.

I thought FF X was weak ass sauce (arguably the worst FF, until 13 and 14 came around) because they removed what made FF games so iconic: the ability to EXPLORE THE MAP! Go to different villages, arb around for a while, level up against countless of mobs on the map, Mini games galore (be it raising chocobos, playing cards etc.) and then when you’ve unlocked or found some of the most insane weaponry on offer, you head to the final boss.

This linear western crap is bullshit. If I wanted to play a linear western RPG game, I would load up one of the countless ones released over the last 20 years.

Comeon Square return to your roots! FFS Fuck the West!

In comparison FF 12 was actually pretty good, but by then everyone was so gatvol of Final Fantasy. In my opinion the best FF are (in no significant order): FF2,FF3, FF6, FF7, FF9 and FF12. In fact all the pre FF7s are pretty awesome, but today’s ritalin kids won’t understand them because all they want to do is pew pew and wave wave. Fuckign retards the lot of them.

FFXII was a turd. The gambits made the game too stream lined. At times all you had to do was move your character from enemy to enemy and they would do all the work. The story was crap. The main character was overshadowed by a supporting character and the side quests were crappy. The skill sets were poor and basic and by the end of the game everybody had learnt everyone elses skilss leaving no differentiating qualities for each character with special skills. The license board was terrible. The hunting quests were stupid. You spent more time trying to find your damn prey instead of fighting them and when you did they had mass amounts of HP especially the last 10. Had to spend 3 hours just trying to kill one in a single battle.

FFX was amazing and ten times the game FFXII ever was. I could spend 10 000 words alone just in this post describing how amazing FFX is but that would take all day.

    @FF10
was ace i spent truckloads of time playing the underwater game, (forgot the name!) Sphere something.

Best storyline, Tidus was ace, graphics and an awesome battle system. been a long time, think ill play it again tonight!

ff10 is my favorite by far, ff7, and ff9 come a close second. I wish the founder would go back to the company he created! i cant believe one person can make so much difference to a game, if Sakaguchi goes back to Square enix, im sure ff will be awesome again!

FFX was a dried up old turd, and they followed it up with FF-X2 which was even worse. Tidus was a whiny little brat, and not even half the man, Squall, Cloud or Zidane were. Let’s not forget the half baked story that FFX served up to us. What a pile of donkey ass.

    FFXII > FFX (FACT!)

We all have our favorite FF game, but it seems we all agree that after FF X (I know some people like 12) all FF suck. FF13 is not even a Final Fantasy game. FF14 is a disaster SquareEnix bring back FF!!! before is too late. I’ll give you one more chance with VERSUS.

Majority opinion is not infallible, just look at the ANC and htose that support it.

 In other words, even if 100 people think FFX was awesome, it still doesn’t change the fact that it was one of the worst FF games ever.

Fucktard is responsible for this terrible case of thread-ressing, and I have to agree with you, that FFX was hardly stellar. It was a step in the wrong direction from 9 (which in my opinion, is one of the most underrated FF games ever). I still play it on my PS3, and I’ll have to say… arguably it’s one of the finest PSOne games of the last 15 years.

Sakaguchi was indeed the soul of Square. It’s like with Metal Gear Solid. If Kojima is no longer involved those games will suck hard.

Go check some new trailers of his ( Sakaguchi ) new game The Last Story on Wii. It looks absolutely incredible. I cant wait to play that and Ni No Kuni from studio Ghibli and Level 5. Those two look like they are going to be something really special. The great JRPG’s are finally starting to come from Japan. Lets Hope FFXIII Versus is also good. Based on the trailers and the massive levels i saw it looks promising.

Hmm I hated FFX, Tidus was the worst FF protagonist ever, all his dialog was shallow and weak. The plot however was suprisingly deep 2 bad it didnt had stronger cast to carry it. FFXII on the other hand is one of the most beautiful PS2 games I’ve ever played the decision to go with Vaan instead of Basch was one of many cop outs by Square Enix since Sakaguchi left…

I couldn’t have said it better Aussious. Did you ever manage to finish FFX-2 (yes.. THAT one)? I really tried, but I eventually gave up and dropped it off at Cash Crusaders.

It’s therefore not surprising that FFXIII was such a mess.
