Final Fantasy XV demo getting an update

FF XV 3

Final Fantasy XV is highly anticipated, and with good reason. I played the demo earlier this year and mostly enjoyed it, although there were some areas I found lacking. Apparently, others also found those things lacking, and Square Enix is updating it to make it better. Wait, they’re updating a demo? Yes, yes they are.

In a new video (thanks DualShockers), game director Hajime Tabata looks through the feedback received on the demo. If you have an hour and a half or so to kill, you can watch it all right here:

For those who already have the FFXV demo, Episode Duscae, an update will be coming in May. It will include a range of improvements such as better targeting and camera system, and improved combat system and the addition of dodge rolls. Plus, the team is re-assessing how data is handled and how objects are rendered to try to improve frame rate – this may not be sorted in time for the demo update but at least we should be assured of a better experience in the final game.

I am seriously shocked by this move. It’s so rare these days to see demos released before games – Betas and Early Access, sure, but not demos. Now, not only did they give FFXV fans the “gift” of a demo but they’re also updating it? Perhaps these resources should be poured into the full game, or maybe what they learn from this demo will be applied to the entire product. Still, it gives me hope for the final game and makes me excited about what I’m seeing. At this rate, I think it’s safe to assume that development is well underway and the game will be released in the next year or so. Perhaps for the holidays in 2016?

Ever since Tabata-san has come on board, we’re getting tons more communication and I’m feeling much more confident about the game. I’m not sure that I needed to see an update to the demo, but I’m going to take it as a positive sign.

I think it’s a very smart move in the face of paid early access and alpha’s. Code bases being what they are they most likely will not have to repeat the work they do here for the final release.

Demos getting updated is nothing new. Happens without our notice most of the time.
Regarding FFXV; Square Enix doesnt want another flub like the FFXIII series, so they’re taking every precaution to make sure the game is a success. Whatever feedback they pull from this demo will help produce a more well rounded experience for everybody.
