Final Fantasy Type-0 is coming! What is it exactly? I have no clue to be honest – another non-numbered JRPG title in the popular franchise I guess. To boost sales (I don’t see why they would do this otherwise), Square Enix have marketed Type-0 as having the demo for the highly anticipated Final Fantasy XV included. It’s a smart move, and I’m convinced it will make the game fly off shelves, even if those buying aren’t really that interested in it. Turns out that’s the only way to get the demo, and it’ll be available in limited quantities.

Scott Strichart, Associate Product Manager of Square Enix, posted on the PlayStation blog recently. He details what the Final Fantasy Type-0 collectors edition contains. Here’s what it comes with…

CE

Demo included, as you’d expect for buying a premium product. He goes on to share other key information on the Final Fantasy XV demo  (via Kotaku):

First, as Tabata-san said in a recent episode of Square Enix Presents, this demo is exclusive to Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. We’re never going to release it as a stand-alone piece down the line. Secondly, it’s intended to be a special gift for those of you who purchase early — the demo will be limited to the “Day One” edition of the game, meaning that only the first shipment is going to have the demo in it. So if the demo is something you think you might like, we highly encourage you to pre-order or to be quick about getting to the store on launch day, March 17th, 2015.

Pay close attention to the wording. Getting the collectors edition means you’re definitely securing a copy of the Final Fantasy XV demo. For everybody else, they’ll need to pre-order to get the day one edition. The demo is not available through any other means, and never will be. Final Fantasy Type-0 is the only point of access.

It’s a sneaky move from Square Enix in my eyes. Those clambering for the demo will now need to decide if it is worth it for them to pre-order or not.

I don’t like it. I could understand if the demo was an early access bonus to those purchasing Type-0, and something that would be released at a later stage for everybody else. To narrow down access for those who purchase the game, and limited at that? I can only see it as a money-making scheme from Square Enix.

  1. Wait, what? You have to preorder the collectors edition in order to access the demo of the game you’re preordering?

Say whaaaaaat? So based on the above, the demo of the game will only be available on the full game you have JUST ordered? Why would you want the demo then? So you wont be able to make an informed decision whether to buy it or not? This is BS from the planet BS!

Hmmm the wording comes across that way 😛

You have to pre-order final fantasy type-0 to get the final fantasy XV demo.

Has Square Enix got so big they have disappeared up their own ass? This, then FFVII fiasco, FFXIII issues. It’s like they have totally lost sight of what got them there to begin with. Forgotten their fans, forgotten what is good, and have now concentrated solely on milking fans in any way shape or form.

    Oh and mobile…

How is this hard for you idiots to understand? Maybe it’s because you’re all “lazy gamers” or something, but you pre-order Type-0 and you get the FFXV demo as a pre-order bonus.

This is very common in many games to give a bonus for pre-ordering a game, nothing new here.
