Final Fantasy XV is getting a day one patch in the form of the ‘Crown Update’

It’s hard to believe, but Final Fantasy XV is nearly upon us (at last!). Next week Tuesday, on the 29th of November, eager fans will finally get the opportunity to explore the beautiful world of Eos with Noctis and his merry band of brothers.

But first, they’re going to have to update their game, at least if they want the definitive experience. That’s right, Final Fantasy XV is getting a day one patch, because of course it is.

“The Crown Update is the result of some additional time for development since mastering the full game, and provides a variety of updates, minor bug fixes and new features to greatly enhance the overall story and gameplay experience.”

Hey, at least the ‘Crown Update’ doesn’t contain the standard “fix our broken launch” guff. Instead of focusing on mass bug fixing, the first patch for Final Fantasy XV contains a slew of new features instead. Here’s an overview of what they are exactly:

  • Improvements to the camera with new options to better assist and track the action in tight spaces and to improve visibility during battles
  • The addition of an ability tree for the Wait Mode function improves the strategic element of this feature
  • Players can obtain the “Beast Whistle” which can be used to call monsters to battle
  • New event scenes and scenes from KINGSGLAIVE: FINAL FANTASY XV™ and the “Omen” trailer have also been added to the game to make the story and timeline of events within the FINAL FANTASY XV universe even easier to follow for newcomers
  • For those who enjoy collecting items, the upgrade will also add a wider variety or recipes and fish with the addition of a gallery to keep track of culinary discoveries
  • Implementation of social media support, allowing the photos Prompto takes along your journey to be uploaded to Facebook and Twitter.

What’s nice is that the above is entirely optional. If you couldn’t be bothered to have something like social media support, or an improved camera for example, you can go ahead and play Final Fantasy XV as is, and update it at a later stage. That might be a viable option, especially if this patch turns out to be several gigs large. It’s exact size remains a mystery unfortunately.

All I care about to be honest, is the simple fact that Final Fantasy XV is out in just a few days. That’s kind of hard to believe, especially considering that we first got a glimpse of Noctis around a decade ago!

If a day one has optional/value added updates that better the experience, sure. If a day one fixes an entirely broken game to make it semi playable at launch, that is not ok.

Unfortunately most of them are because of the latter.

Yeah man… sad story… but I sincerely hope that Final breaks that mold with it’s D1. I’m trying not to get hyped for the game but it’s difficult as hell.

I read somewhere that the day one patch is rather sizable.

Somewhere in the region of “That’s what she said”.

Years of not watching videos or reading news. And it’s finally time to jump into an FF the same way I did with Final Fantasy 8. By having no idea whats to come and figure it all out from scratch.
