First quarter console sales – US Shipment Data

So the latest shipping data in in for the first quarter of 2007 in the states and there are no surprises from what the rumoured numbers where.

Nintendo is dominating hugely in the handheld and console departments, followed by the PlayStation 2. Then comes the Xbox 360 followed by the PSP and PS3 and trailing by miles is the GameCube…

You do notice that the original Xbox is now officially MIA…

I don’t think there is much to read into this graph, Sony will be hoping those PS2 sales will transform into PS3 sales in the next year or two whilst Microsoft will be hoping to poach some of them and get the Wii customers to pick up a 360 as well… Time will tell but it’s all good for the consumers at the moment.

This is a very misleading article. The title is “First Quarter Sales – US Shipment Data”. “Shipments” and “Sales” are completely different. Just because an item has shipped does not mean that it will be (or has been) sold. Also, it’s a known fact that suppliers flood the supply chain with units to artificially inflate stats like this to make their end of quarter figures look better than they really are.

I fully agree but since the original article spoke entirely of sales but their chart showed shipping data I thought the best option would be to put sales and shipping in the title…

The numbers seem to be as expected though….
