Seeing as last Friday was a holiday, we haven’t had an FFD in two weeks.
3D gaming seems to be all the rage with Playstation announcing and showing off a lot of 3D compatible games and Nintendo looking to be officially revealing the Nintendo 3DS very soon. Is this the future of gaming, or do you think it’s just some stupid gimmick that’s going to soon become a distant memory.
Is Playstation 3 heading in the right direction with its latest focus on 3D or are Nintendo going to prove themselves the smart ones once again when they unveil their latest plans for a 3D handheld?
Is 3D gaming all that and a bag of chips or is it just bringing in an extra dimension that nobody really wants? Hit us up with your opinions and let’s see what you all think.

Personally I think this 3D movement if just another fad, until they can get 3D working without special glasses and without having to stand exactly [n] meters directly in front of a TV it just won’t take off or be a reasonable alternative.
However it’s huge money for the manufacturers to prepare for 3D garbage to be forced down our throats for the next couple of years

They have done this already? Tons of TV’s that don’t need 3d glasses including TV’s from Sony, Samsung and Panasonic.
Like all LCD’s there is an optimum viewing distance but its not a fixed rule. Most people eyes are not used to viewing 3d images via TV’s so our eyes will have a learning curve.

3D TV and gaming is the future! Who wouldn’t want to sit in your own home and watch live sports games in perfect 3d?

Until 3D tv’s without glasses come out I say it’s a gimmick. But the problem is can only talk about 3D movies and not 3D games as I haven’t seen a proper 3D game yet – it might be a different experience.

I have played proper 3D games before, and in some cases it’s nothing short of amazing. If you play racing games or any other game where judging distance is key, you will never want to go back to flat images ever again.
I think that 3D can and will be awesome, I just don’t know how awesome it will ever be with the current setup. TV’s cut off 3D on the edges as well, killing the illusion

m8 are u thick 3ds doesnt need glasses and there are sharp quadpixel lcd tvs out early next year and samsung have 1 this year yes without the need for glasses sharp are adding another primary colour pixel to the existing 3 its yellow check it on youtube i think the wii2 will be full 3D without the need for glasses and it will use the holographic storage solution for discs,hardrive,memory,ect but u will need a compatable tv to make use of the 3D and will have motion controls 10 times more precise than wiimote cant say anything about the sony move yet its not out proof is in the user reaction so i will wait and see with that 1 but sony will get left in the dark if they use this glasses 3D tech rubbish thats been about for years PS3 3D with GLASSES WOW WHO CARES wii2 will have FUSION TECH thats capable of directx11 graphics aswell as CGI in game graphics yes movie experiences with your next wii bought to u by the power of FUSION plus your silly if u think nintendo wont put out a ultra powerful 3D Wii with holographic storage yes inphase and nintendo own the technology so i think they will use it to trump ps3 1TB memory on board i think 100/200gig single/dual layer discs for massive games i think we will see nintendos iwata did say recently that he would be able to tell us his plans for wii2 if there were no copycats so E32010 when they have MOVE/NATAL maybe ninty will let loose there plans for the wii2 because it will be safe to do so when sony/microsoft are showing there next big thing only for ninty to drop a bomb and show the wii2 along with there plans remember when the 3DS got announced stocks/shares ect went through the roof so it would help there buisness model going foward

Have any of you have seen that 3D ESPN X-Games Trailer in theatres? That actually made me realise how damn awesome 3D can be.
For gaming though, I wonder if 3D will ever really be great on just a TV, as opposed to a virtual environment or at the very least, a massive screen

3D for gaming will be a hard task. It’s hard to sync shadows and graphics at high frame-rates. Also pro-longed ours can lead to motion sickness :sick:

For me this will never work, and there is a lot of people like me that don’t have perfect vision, e.g my left eye are slightly of centre, so I can’t appreciate this at all. So I would never play a game like this at all.

As like everyone says it’ll only work as 3D without the need of the glasses.
I personaly think that 3D works really well for movies and TV.
In terms of gaming I don’t think it’ll be that awesome.
The reason for this is how your depth of view is going to be altered.
Imagin playing a fast paced FPS or racing game…
Trying to judge what you doing while being affected but the “3D” effect will just make you hurl or give you a headache. :wassat:

I have played games like that in 3D and if the tech you are using is decent its no different than the 3D you see in everyday life really.
In racing games it’s insane how well you can judge your distance to a corner or another car and overtake or duck in without knocking the other person

I’m not convinced, nor am I impressed by the latest 3D TVs either. I think it has potential, and we’ll probably see some really interesting tech in the near future, but I just got used to high definition, and I’m a grumpy old man, so bear with me.
