Flamebait Friday Debate – Stealth Edition – Metal Gear VS Splinter Cell

It’s Friday, which means it’s time for our Flamebait Friday Debate. This week we focus on two major stealth exclusives.

The Metal Gear series has been running for just about ever now and has spanned over multiple Sony platforms in it’s time and has a really large following thanks to it’s crazy stories and Japanese flair.

In the other corner we have Mr. Sam Fisher representing the Splinter Cell series. Originally launching for the Xbox and PC, Splinter Cell is in the same genre as MGS but bares little to no resemblance to it’s eye-patched rival.

The question is, which one do you think is the better series? It’s very rare that you get two rivals that each shine for such different reasons. Let’s hear it.

  1. Splinter Cell obviously. It’s more real world like so you feel real and it’s not composed by half of the game being cut-scenes

I Dont like the whole idea of a man doing gymnastics up a wall to silently kill a terrorist soldier, when he could of simply hidden himself in a box or barrel

    That pic is hilarious =)

Um, well I’ve only played MGS 1 and Splinter Cell DA so I’m no authority on the subject. That said, i think I enjoyed MGS 1 more.

That said I cannot WAIT to get my grubby little paws on Conviction!

Get DA. It sets the scene up for Conviction nicely 😉

Solid Snake man, Its so story line driven, not to mention intense boss fighting scenes. And who can forget the unforgettable Battle Old Snake and Ocelot has at the end. CLASSIC!

Kojima Toriyama, you are truly a developer in a million!

Metal Gear Solid. Innovation over imitation 🙂

MGS just has so much more going for it in my opinion. The story, game play, secrets, the boss fights and the cool ideas like: Hiding in lockers, tranquilizing someone in the head works quicker than the leg, swapping remotes out to defeat a psycp mantis, octo camo… the list goes on.

comparing the 2 is like apples and pears…but for what its worth , heres my 2cents.
Mgs2 – just blew me out of this world – fav moment , staying outside too long and u get sick , such detail… comparing that to say SC chaos theory….ahh nah not even worth it.
Mgs3 vs SC D.A , well again how can u compare the 2 , mgs3 offers and always offers new ways to do things , DA- well it sets u up nicely but u know like the choice is go on a pipe or wait in the dark or sticky cam…boring.
    MGS vs SC – story…no comparsion…
However , conviction looks really sweet and intense , and i am actually really looking forward to it , sam looks alot faster and from what i have seen , the way they project objectives onto the enviroment looks like a nice touch

I’m sorry but this is lame ( ), Splinter cell obviously re-defined the espionage genre. Introducing Advanced shadow effects and James Bond like gadgets allowing you to take out the enemy in the best ways! possible! and now with splinter Cell Conviction taking a completely new spin and and introducing new game play mechanics as well as having played the game at Rage Conviction will dominate. + there won’t be hour long cut scene’s 😉

I struggle to get past the hiding in the box idea… I realise it’s a MGS thing but seriously it annoys me 🙁

That being said I don’t like the old Splinter Cell games that much either, the new one looks awesome though… I guess only time will tell.
