Fanboys are a strange breed. Armies of nameless, faceless soldiers fighting blindly for the honour of some company belonging to a really fat, rich guy who owns 10 houses, 3 islands and a couple of private jets.
At the same time, they have somehow became an integral part of the video games industry and can create massive influence when massed together on the battlefields of the internet. Every major video game company has them, like a bunch of coked up groupies looking for their next victim.
Question is… which ones are the absolute worst of the lot? The worst of the worst, the dirty filth of our time.
I think I know.

They’re all the same… mindless sheep, who gladly suck on the cancerous teat of Corporations.
They are the reason why DLC is so profitable and why the future of gaming will be littered with incomplete games and shoddily produced and frequent DLC.
They are the reason why you can actually pay real money for “clothes” for your digital dolls.
They are the reason why console makers can cut corners and deliver shoddy consoles, without any sort of repercussions.

I must say, Apple fanboys really get to me. With most Sony and MS fanboys, they will still admit errors with their product yet try to disguise them one way or another. Apple fanboys, i.e. shwartz ;), simply do NOT listen to reason, logic or fact.

to be honest, i’ve met quite a few very stand offish PC fanboys.
and the elitist mentality from the SONY fanboys, i cant stand it….in fact, if it wasn’t for the Sony fanboys, I might have already owned a PS3
i really think the MS fanboys are none of the above, whats the stigma surounding MS fanboys?? i really dont know alot…the couple I do know are not actually fanboys, but more like me, I’m gamer of any flavour of platform which started out in PC gaming.
….but i guess each persons’ opinion should differ, because each person interprets their friends opinions and people they meet online differently.

Frankly i dont mind the fanboys much because they are the product of something even worse. These pretentious gaming news and media outlets. 90% of them either spread misinformation, their own bias or purposefully post fanboy material to get their site hits. 90% of these guys are gaming bloggers and fanboys themselves that have nothing better to do with their time. I mean for the love of God you just have to read the articles on N4G to understand e.g the fake Gran Turismo 5 loading times and crash damage, the site that posted a Nvidia tablet and photo shopped the PSP2 Logo saying he had an inside source, sites with bloggers trying covince ppl that MS raising the price of Live is a good thing, sites posting images of multi Platform games that look near identical and try to get the fanboys roaring by using 1000’s of dollars of equipments to prove this version runs 2 frames per second better than this version etc.
Really are fanboys that bad or should we start looking at some of the idiots who think they are actual journalists and pretend they have high standards before we point fingers at the fanboys and disillusioned industry they have created?

Personally I think the fanboy comes out when a site uses 1000’s of dollars worth of equipment to prove a version runs better than another.. in reality no one should care but yet people do. That’s the problem not the person proving the fact.

Comon Gavin thats like saying propaganda didnt create Nazi’s or American news doesnt colour a better picture of America to Americans. The media has power and the way they use it results in Nazi’s, terrorists, freedom fighters, racists and fanboys etc. The media gives ppl a sense of identity and helps them form their opinions more often than not. Amercian soldiers ran off to war with best intentions of stopping nuclear terror and chemical weapons based on lies. Fanboys will buy Kinect instead of Move because Gavin prefers Kinect and writes positive things while ingoring most of the negative. You guys have power to persuade ppl to go one way or another thats why its the duty of any self respecting journalist to present the facts as is and if they would like to post a personal preference then post it as an opinion piece as you did with Kinect or even better in the comments section instead of the articles themselves.
This is why most ppl have zero respect for sites like Edge and Destructoid while sites like Giant Bomb has such a respected following. They point out facts and if there is a problem with a multi plat game thats huge like Bayonetta or the Orange box they will point it out and if there is a better experience to be had with R.U.S.E using Move they will point it out but not write an entire article about it trying to garner hits. Like i said ill stick by my comment and say The gaming media are worse than fanboys because they give them the fuel and help them form their gamer identity.

Well its part of human nature to take sides, I mean to sports to me is just as pointless or meaningful as say gaming. Hence to here a bunch of fanboys going on about which has better graphics between Gears and Uncharted is indentical to those arguing about which team is better Arsenal or Man Untd.At the end of the day its all the same because whether its SONY,MS or Arsenal and Man U its bout the big corparates making money off our pass times. Truth is we need to stop playing video games and watching Sports and start trying to figure out why we are here, and go start fights with random strangers, destroy economy and start a revolution.I know we can call it Project Mayhem.:devil:

I’ve noticed that on the internet, the general rule of thumb is: If you don’t agree with me, you are a fanboy.
In my time writing for this site, I have been accused of being an Xbox 360 fanboy, a Playstation 3 fanboy, an Apple fanboy – well pretty much an “everything” fanboy, I believe they call that being a “gamer”. (admittedly, I am quite an Apple whore and buy way too many of their products).

The problem is that you are judging Gavin through your own fanboy bias. Any LG follower with some sense will know that LG posts negatives and positives about all consoles. It’s only people like you that get your panties in a bunch when your prefered console is in a negative light and you’re not mature enough to accept it. i think the worst fanboys are pc gamers, not console gamers. PC gamers think by buying a GTX 480 they can have free sex, and they kill console when in reality, most pc games are shoddy ports, with stupid drm. PC fanboys have the worst egos and think they know it all. If you want advise, go straight to the manufacturer to not ask your local expert, as they know everything about nothing!

There are too many amateur journalists around with their selective coverage on events. Wake up people. Don’t be suckered into such a single-minded, antagonistic outlook. Respect your platform, but don’t limit yourself or isolate others with similar interests because they aren’t playing a title on your chosen platform.

While I agree with many of the points raised, there are also way too many readers out there who are pretty adept at “selective reading” as well. These are the ones that pitch up everytime their platform of choice is not being praised at all times.
They are the ones who arrive when there is good news to say “see I told you it was the best” and pitch up when there is bad news to say “you people always focus on the negative, stop being such fanboys and focusing on the negatives”,
You can never, ever win with people like that, ever.
