IM SO ANGRY

I can’t honestly tell you when’s the last time I played a traditional board game. I used to do it all; Monopoly, The Mad Magazine Game, and even that old school classic, Mouse Trap. The only tabletop action I get these days comes in the form of Pathfinder. I meet up with a Wookiee and several others nearly every week to go kill stuff and roll lots of dice. The problem with that is the fact that I have to leave my house and brave the cruel world beyond my front door each time. Human interaction be damned, this is the 21st century, and I want something playable over the Internet! One studio, Berzerk Games, foresaw my pleas, because there actually exists the very thing I need. It’s called Tabletop Simulator, and it’s officially releasing next month.

Here’s what the game is all about, along with it’s very serious trailer (via PC Gamer):

If you’re into classic board games, we’ve got 15 to choose from, like Chess, Poker, Chinese Checkers, Dominoes, and Piecepack. If you are into tabletop gaming we’ve got an RPG Kit with various role playing animated figurines that you can setup and battle with your friends. The RPG Kit is ever expanding, so you can expect to see new things to come to really take your tabletop gaming to a new level.

If you’re a creative person make your own games on Steam Workshop. You can easily create your own games by importing images onto custom boards, custom decks, 3D models, and more. This is the ultimate tool for playing practically anything tabletop and the content is ever expanding thanks to the strong community support! Thousands of mods and growing on the Workshop.

I’d honestly never head anything about the game until today. It has spent the last year and a bit in Steam Early Access, but that’ll change when it officially releases on June the 5th. Here’s a bunch of its features:

  • Online sandbox playground that you play how you want.
  • Unlimited games thanks to sandbox, no rules design.
  • Multiplayer physics with objects that collide and interact just how you would expect.
  • Create your own mods easily with full Steam Workshop support.
  • Play just like you do in real life; pick up, rotate, shake, and throw any object.
  • Up to 8 people can play together on the same table & talk on in-game voice chat.
  • The perfect “game night” fun due to seamless game loading & saving.
  • Hotseat mode allowing you to play locally on the same computer.
  • Tons of pre-made game modes with the option to make your own games.
  • Perfect for RPGs – build your very own role playing dungeons with our modular tileset.
  • Browse the internet in multiplayer in-game on a tablet.
  • Great admin tools to eliminate griefing in public games.
  • Multiple 360° panoramic backgrounds that change the mood.
  • Included game modes: Backgammon, Cards, Chess, Checkers, Chinese Checkers, Custom, Dice, Dominoes, Go, Mahjong, Pachisi, Piecepack, Poker, Reversi, RPG Kit, Sandbox, Solitaire, Tablet

The fact that just about any real, physical game in existence can be implemented by means of the Steam Workshop is actually quite cool. Somebody please make the Mad Magazine Game… please please please… even though half the cards will be redundant in a virtual environment.

If you’re interested in the Tabletop Simulator, it’ll cost you $14.99 now, or $19.99 when it launches next month. Would you play such a game? Or do you see it as a colossal waste of time? I personally think it has some sort of appeal. Maybe that’s just me though.

  1. Does it come with OR support? Because I don’t want to feel like I’m sitting there all alone, even though I am.

So you assume HK is unisex?

          It is the hair right?

It sounds very promising, but I will wait and see before making a decision.
