Forza 4 Kinect is all about the casual gamer

Kinect may be doing fantastic things for Microsoft’s bank balance but it is still a long way from being accepted by the hardcore gamer and when it was announced previously that the upcoming Forza 4 racing simulator would have Kinect integration there were a lot of sagging heads and crying from the hardcore fans.

Thankfully, or ominously, Forza 4’s developers have announced that the Kinect integration isn’t about simulation racing but is rather aimed at friends on the couch just messing around.

I don’t know if this is good news or not for Forza fans, on the one side it’s great news that Turn 10 hasn’t been trying to shoe horn in some gimmicky play style into the main game and that the core of the game is still a solid racing simulator.

But then on the other side they have spent a whole lot of time tacking on some casual styled racing ability that should maybe have rather been left for a less serious title.

In Dan Greenawalt’s words

That’s not really about simulation driving for 24 hours in LeMans or the Nürburgring. It’s really about just having fun with your mates, you know you’re just sitting there on the couch, split screen, you can kind of elbow your friend, you’re with your son or you’re with your daughter, you can just play with cars with them.

So, for us, it wasn’t really about replicating simulation, even though it still runs on our simulation engine, it was about having fun

I can hear the GT5 fans laughing in the distance already but my advice would be to hold out on the full on mockery until you’ve seen the title, by all accounts it’s going to be a good one either way.
