Forza 5 to run at 1080p, 60 fps

Forza5

Most games on consoles right now don’t run at the de-facto HD standard of 1080p. In fact, most of them render at a resolution below 720p – and even then, very few of them run at the buttery smooth 60 frames per second. Forza 5, says Turn 10, will be the first game in the revered racing series to run at 60 frames per second in full HD.

“I believe we’re uniquely positioned to deliver on that challenge. We’re a huge epic game that’s going to be running at 1080p, 60fps on the next-gen console, so it’s an incredible opportunity on one hand, but you have to be incredibly flexible and agile and self-aware on the other hand,” Turn 10 content director John Wendel told Gamespot.

That doesn’t mean that all next-gen console games will hit that sweet spot though; the decision to do 1080p, 60 fps was Turn 10’s, not Microsoft’s.

“I don’t think that platform holders can dictate what the internal frame buffer size should be. Forza 5 runs at 60 frames per second, but other people will make different trade-offs,” he said.

“Resolution is not the thing that maximises beauty.”

Honestly though? It’s a new generation of consoles – and at this point, I think most people expect 1080p and 60fps as standard.

Just unfortunate that it only works on the Xbone, so for all I care, it could run at 4K at 180 FPS, I ain’t touching that shit with my dead grandmother’s finger.

These comments I don’t get. Even if the Xbone beats the PS4 in not only the amount of games, but the quality of games, you still wouldn’t touch it. What is this generation coming to? I said it before, and I’ll say it again. The console flaming and fanboism this generation is a lot worse than the last generation. And they say our medium is growing up… wish that was true.

It is called MANDATORY shit we do not want. Kinect 2 (always on spy cam), DRM, mandatory Internet connections and living in South Africa we do not want to pay for features that do not work here.

They can release the next gen SKYRIM killer and I still will never think about updating my 360. We are no longer Microsofts demographic.

I still just maintain that we need to hang on before saying too much more, its only a few days away now. And once we have the full info, we can start going off. Until then, we are just pretty much running in circles.

The Xbox One online stuff really barely bothers me, even though I take my Xbox out of town to our holiday home for long stretches of time once a year – these days its not such a hassle, flip your phone to share internet, log in to authenticate, switch off and carry on.

Yeah it will be a schlep compared to doing nothing instead, but it really isnt so bad. Hell… it isnt always-online, and thats what matters. We will see, maybe things will change if the audience just completely boycotts the new systems. Then again the new systems may actually make a lot of sense when we hear about them… so lets wait and see.

My gripe with that (online checks), give them the pinky now, and they’ll grab the whole hand next gen.

Also, our internet in SA ain’t all that stable all the time. It remains a nuisance.

            June 6, 2013 at 11:38

Yeah it’s tough for us here in SA, because the truth is that the other countries want to push more boundaries and forge ahead, and we get left behind – but like we have seen even with companies like Apple, it does actually really help progress.

Again like I said, at least it’s not always online. But… I am scared that we are gonna have launch issues where we can’t activate our games, or won’t be able to play our games because XBL is down or something… hopefully they have full back ups in place, but we can never be certain of that

I was just making fun of your… well quite honestly… ridiculous statement that we are going to wait until it’s ‘TOO LATE’, when in reality, we need to just wait a few days to E3 to let the companies properly announce their plans.

          • RincemysoulXboxOne

            June 6, 2013 at 11:30

If they release information that there will be DRM etc (the concerns of the community) at E3, are they going to then backtrack if the community goes mental? I don’t see that as happening. I agree that comparing the consoles is a bit hasty, but I also agree that making it clear what people will not accept will influence what is released. The capitals I used were to stress the point that by E3 if both SONY and MS have already decided on something there will be little the community can do to get them to backtrack, not when developers have a 100% understanding of what they can and cannot do.

          • Nick de Bruyne

            June 6, 2013 at 11:42

OK but again I don’t understand how you think that after E3 it will be set in stone. Especially since, like I mentioned before, we don’t actually have the full information yet. We just simply don’t know what they have planned, but let’s not forget something: They are fully aware that if they push too hard, they will lose customers and the industry will dive like crazy. They know that they have some sort of ability to push and try their luck, but they are definitely at our mercy to a degree.

          • Rinceyouropinion

            June 6, 2013 at 11:48

I have already said I agree that we cannot compare consoles based on the information we have. Which sounds like what you are saying. I have also stated that it is categorically important for a community to make their voices and concerns heard, as this does indeed mean they are at our mercy to a degree. Think we are arguing a very similar thing here. Just to point out though, if E3 is not a set in stone affair, then waiting till E3 is less important as a turning point. Anywho, I don’t like arguing (unless it’s with CoD fanboys) and have enjoyed our heated game of tennis 🙂

          • Nick de Bruyne

            June 6, 2013 at 12:01

Thanks to you too. I don’t think E3 is important as a turning point, not for things like changing DRM method etc. I do think that its an important date in terms of allowing us to finally get all of the information. So people can complain already, and make their voices heard, but it would be a little silly if Sony/MS got up and said something no one was expecting, but… oh well, we have to wait and see.

      • RincemysoulXboxOne

        June 6, 2013 at 10:43

I would have to disagree. If you have been keeping up to date, which I am sure you have, you’ll note the recognition from SONY execs in regards to peoples complaints. If we don’t complain about something, how are we supposed to change it?

As I said above – wait for the full info, then complain. Nothing will make the complaints get taken less serious than if people are moaning without knowing the info, it just makes them look like… well, moaners – not people with legitimate issues.

Yip it does drop below 60fps. 30fps is fine, like HALO 4 that runs at 30fps but is full 720 runs as smooth as a babies bottom.

We are just going to have to endure more lies lies and lies while they gun for the early install base and then backtrack all over again.

            June 6, 2013 at 10:43

Problem with GT5 is that if you run a race with a full grid for example, when you arrive at the first corner the game drops below 30. But to be honest its the fluctuation thats almost worse than the lower rate. Dash cam will be struggling, you switch to outside it shoots up etc

Been a fan since Forza 2. Played GT5 extensively as well and both games are very similar with regards to physics and handling but Forza 3 and 4 creamed GT5 in the presentation dept and had much smoother framerates. Enjoyed GT5’s DLC way more than Forza’s though.

Never purchased Horizon as I didn’t think I’d enjoy it as much as Burnout Paradise (open world aspect) but I would def look at the next Forza if M$ manage to sort their kak out eventually.
