Free Super Meat Boy DLC

Man, Super Meat Boy is tough as hell. It is, however, one of those ridiculously rare games that constantly kicks you in the nuts, but then instantly soothes them with ice packs and tender kisses as soon as you complete a level. In other words: you’re constantly tested but you never get frustrated.

It’s great to see that some DLC is already available for the game. It’s even better to see that adjective that all gamers love to bits and pieces: “free”. Unfortunately there’s another adjective that many gamers loath to bits and pieces: “exclusive”.

The free DLC is exclusive to the Xbox 360 version of Super Meat Boy. It’s entitled The Sewers of Dross and it’s already available on Xbox Live Arcade. You do, however, have to do some work for it as you need to have unlocked “Teh Internets” (header image) in the game already. To do that, you need to collect twenty bandages.

The Sewers of Dross is the first in a load of planned “Character Exclusive” levels. The DLC focuses on the character Gish from a 2004 Indie title of the same name. For those of you who don’t know, Super Meat Boy has a bunch of cameo appearances by characters from other games. Gish is one of those.

According to Team Meat “Character exclusive basically means you’ll be playing a full 20 level chapter based around a specific character and his/her special abilities. This setup allows us to make chapters that no other character could beat except the one in question, a very fun restriction that allows us to make totally fresh levels that almost make the game feel like a whole new platformer.”

Actually you don’t download it, you need to be connected to XBL and the levels stream as you play them.

Big ups Team Meat. Definately my fav 2 developers of the year.
